Spotted In The Wild: Guitar Hero III Arcade… With Two Screens!?

Weekly Features

Guitar Hero III Arcade Cabinet

This Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock arcade machine was found at an arcade called Alladin’s Castle, located inside the Berkshire Mall in Reading, PA. Not sure how legal this is, but it totally exists; right in front of the arcade, facing the entrance to entice any and all teenagers who might be playing hookie. It’s obvious that there’s a 360 hooked up under there, but the weird thing is that it has two screens…

The machine charges a dollar for every 5 minutes of play, which is specified on a second, smaller screen, oddly enough. The rules are described as follows:

How To Play
Amount of money can be divided among players.
Time can be extended at any time for the same number of players
Pausing controller does not pause time purchased
Insert Payment -
# of Credits will be displayed
Choose number of players
and Select Game Controller

I didn’t feel like wasting money on giving the machine a try, but there were a few seconds left over by someone else and I decided to pick up the axe. As soon as I began cycling through the set list a prompt alerted me that the controller had been disconnected. I was definitely standing still and definitely not rocking out so hard, so is this machine rigged to gyp people out of their money? I just might have to call shenanigans.

  3. [...] Last week I did a quick post about a Guitar Hero II arcade that I spotted at my local mall. I questioned the legality of the whole thing since I saw no official branding or licensing on the cabinet that stated a deal was worked out with Activision. And the fact that the machine looked so ridiculously bootleg made it seem a little shady. [...]
