Friday Night Muxtape Vol. 2: Saturday Edition

Weekly Features

Pardon the tardiness. It’s been a hectic week at ALBOTAS headquarters. NY Comic Con is only a week away! We’re looking forward to spending the weekend in a roach infested motel in China Town. It should rule. Oh yeah, keep an eye out for A Little Bit On The Awesome Show, a weekly video podcast where we talk about awesome things. Coming soon!

We have a good mix this week, feel free to let us know whether you think our music sucks or rules in the comments. And leave your muxtape links, too! Here’s a Mux that HumanWaste left last week [link].

Hit the jump for this week’s Muxtape picks. [albotas.muxtape.com]

brownkidd’s Picks
This week I went for sort of a Southern feel.

  • Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster - Memories of the Grove
This is a southern/metal band fronted by Dallas Taylor, former vocalist for Underoath. I’m so glad he left to join a way better band. Think Lynyrd Skynyrd with two-steps and breakdowns. Listen to this song the whole way through because it has everything, a nice, heavy, chunky breakdown, sweet riffs, chants, and an especially cool whispery part.
  • Every Time I Die - The New Black
You may recognize this song from Guitar Hero II. This is actually the last song by these guys that I could really get into. Every album before Gutter Phenomenon is exceptionally good, but they’ve been slacking lately.
  • Cancer Bats - Grenades
    Dirty. Gritty. Fast. Rock.

Eddie’s Picks

  • NOFX - You’re Wrong
    Because it’s so right.
  • Sage Francis - Jah Didn’t Kill Johnny
A rapper rhyming about a country singer is something you definitely don’t hear everyday.
  • Home Grown - Surfer Girl
    It’s a beach song.

Prime’s Picks
  • Akitaka Tohyama, Kenji Ninuma - The Moon and the Prince
  • Alisa - Everlasting Love
  • Yohihito Yano, Saki Kabata - Lonely Rolling Star
We’ve had a particularly long winter here, we’re just finally starting to see a little bit of grass. So with the return of warm weather along side the beginning of hockey playoffs, the level of happiness is pretty high around here. My songs for this week reflect this state of mind, they’re all happy and cheerful. This is why all three songs are from the Katamari games, there’s no better source for songs that convey love and joy.

Dan’s Picks
  • Aggrolites - Lucky Streak
These guys are insanely energetic and fun. Self proclaimed “dirty reggae” pioneers did all the back up music for Tim Armstrong’s recent solo project. If you ever get the chance to see them live, do it. Nearly the best live performance I have ever seen.
  • Aesop Rock - Daylight
Simply put, you need to know about Aesop.
  • Bomb the Music Industry! - Never Trust a Man Without a Horribly Embarrassing Secret
The aptly named BTMI! is the brainchild of Jeff Rosenstock, formerly of The Arrogant Sons of Bitches, built around the idea that music should be free. Therefore, every song record by BTMI! is available free through their website, as well as other artist that follow the same theory. Check out Jeff’s donation based record label www.quoteunquoterecords.com if you get a chance.

  5. Why does Prime always choose game soundtracks? I liked brownkidd’s picks best. They were refreshing from all the alternative and generic “rock” songs I’ve been listening to lately.
