Skottie Young to Pencil Marvel’s ‘Wonderful Wizard of Oz’

Skottie Young is definitely up there in my list of favorite comic book artists and it’s been a joy to watch his work evolve over the years. He started off with a very slick and solid line style that was a cross between graffiti and tattoo art, but his work has since morphed into a more raw, gritty style with lots more texture and depth. It’s like a cross between old Skottie Young and Ashley Wood. I love his old style, but his new stuff’s really growing on me.
Marvel comics will release THE WONDERFUL WIZARD OF OZ #1 this December and it’s written by the expert of adapting the world of Oz for comics, Eric Shanower. Shanower is well-known for his work on The Enchanted Apples of Oz, The Secret Island of Oz, The Ice King of Oz, The Forgotten Forest of Oz, and The Blue Witch of Oz which have all been collected into a single volume from IDW Publishing.
Skottie Young has posted his thoughts on the project over at his blog which is totally worth the read. I’m really looking forward to this one so expect a review when it comes out this December.
