5 Reasons It Sucks To Be Tech Savvy

Technology is great. But there are some consequences to being tech savvy. Those of us who are, even just a little, have probably come across some of these. That inevitable, “Something’s wrong with my computer. Can you help?” that comes from our parents. Here are a few other reasons why it sucks just a little bit to know about technology.

You’re considered a geek until someone needs something fixed.
It’s starting to get there, but knowing a lot about technology still isn’t quite cool. When people don’t understand what you’re talking about, and it’s about technology, you’re labeled a geek. But once something stops working, a computer, router, etc., you’re suddenly the cool go-to guy.

Strangers talk to you about their problems.
Somehow, some way, they always seem to find you. People you’ve never met asking you what’s wrong with their computer. Rattling off error messages and glitches isn’t going to make me want to help you any more. People get paid for that sort of thing.

Short temper with friends and family.
Your parents want you to help them set up their computer, but they just don’t get it. You try to explain what you’re doing. Computers are almost fool-proof these days, but a few always seem to slip through the cracks, and they’re always in your family. Pretty soon you start hating your dad because he can’t find the folder where he downloaded that funny cat picture from his boss.

You start becoming anti-social and lose friends.
With so much new technology being released (almost daily it seems sometimes), it’s easy to get wrapped up in it. Browsing online gets you sucked into the trail of technology blogs, products, and reviews. Suddenly you’re looking at a review of the new robot that wipes your ass for you, and you have no idea how you got there. Then there’s no time for your girlfriend or friends so you become a hermit, not realizing you haven’t slept in three days and your cat died.

You’re poor.
If you love gadgets, you most likely spend all your money on them. The cash flows out of your bank account faster than it flows into it. Your credit cards are maxed out, bills overdue, and they’re repossessing your car. But it’s okay because you’ve got the new 15-foot plasma HDTV with built-in coffee maker.
