Should Jeff Goldblum Play The Riddler in the Next Batman?

Although there’s no official word that the Riddler will even appear in the next Batman flick, it’d be nice to see the Batman vs Riddler dynamic on screen. Batman is known for his extraordinary deductive reasoning skills, but the Riddler’s are way better. Imagine it — he’s always 10 steps ahead! He could be painted as the millionaire playboy villain to Bruce Wayne’s millionaire playboy hero. Seriously, gimme’ some credit. The foundation rules so far. All it needs is the perfect actor to play the Riddler.

Jeff – freaking- Goldblum.

His acting style would be perfect for the gig. Imagine his offbeat, stuttered lines being delivered as he plays the eccentric, smooth-talking, obsessive-compulsive Edward Nigma. Jeff Goldblum’s the only actor that could portray ego-maniacal confidence and a desperate obsession driven by a tortured past.

Admit it, you want this to happen just as much as I do.

Who do you guys think would make a good Riddler? Let me know in the comments.

  • I was actually thinking about this the other day and I've come to the conclusion that Hugh Laurie would also make a pretty badass Riddler, but Goldblum's stuttering would be pretty badass too.
  • Mark Johnson
Jeff Goldlum could do it or Johnny Depp or Gary Since or even Neil Patrick Harris as The Riddler, make as dark as The Joker on Dark Knight and they could be either Brothers or Cosins so ,they could have some type of rivally of some chioce.
  • Interesting choice.
  • Twin Tiger
Goldblum would be ok. But, there was talk of Eddie Murphy playing the role as well. I think Murphy would be a pretty gutsy, yet brilliant choice. As a cyber terrorist, he could spout techno-babble better and funnier than anybody else.
  • I don't think Goldblum would be a good pick. I can't watch that guy without realizing I am just watching Goldblum do the same role he does in every other movie. Plus I would never believe he is smarter than Batman, or threatening enough to stress Batman out.

The role of the Riddler will have to be done by someone that can totally change their character and make you believe they are truly the Riddler, and not some actor playing the Riddler.

None of us could imagine how great Ledger was going to be as the Joker when it was announced, but it caught us off guard. Which is what made him brilliant.

So it's hard to tell who could play a great Riddler because the greatness will come from the shock of seeing a performance you never expected.

    David Tennant, all the way.

If you don't know him, he's the current Doctor on Doctor Who, but he's soon being replaced. It's hard to put into words how amazing an actor he is. But not only has he demonstrated the ability to portray brilliant deductive skills as The Doctor, but he has that special kind of weird charm that I think would be perfect for The Riddler, especially in Nolan's Batman.

Also he could totally pull off the look.

  • I've said this before while discussing it with friends and no one agreed with me. However my pick now would go to Damian Lewis from Life/Band of Brothers. If you've never seen Life go watch an episode on Hulu and then tell me he wouldn't be perfect.
  • ALEX LAWTON
YOUR RIGHT I BEEN WATCHING HIM SINCE BAND OF BROTHERS, HE WOULD BE PERFECT FOR THE RIDDLER. HE'S MY FIRST CHOICE TO BE THE RIDDLER THAN DAVID TENNANT, THAN JONNY DEEP.
  • One word: Malkovich.
  • Oooh good call. I thought about this too, but something about his eyes gives off the "pissed off dad" vibe. Goldblum gives off a less threatening first impression (good for throwing people for a loop) and his eyes are always mysterious, like he's plotting. Plus he's lanky as hell and would look good in a fancy green suit. Especially now that he's all old and grey.

Maybe we should raise money and have celebrities fist fight for the Riddler part...
  • Fist fight between Goldblum and Malkovich? My money's still on Malkovich, I think he'd fight dirty.

His rants as Riddler would be epic. It does seem that they pick the most unlikely candidate for the villians though. Who would've ever thought Heath Ledger before the fact. So it could be just about anybody. Maybe Guy Pearce, since he has a history with Nolan.
  • Andy
Jim Carrey will always be the best Riddler ever. He was PERFECT. They should bring him back. I just don't see Jeff Goldblum as the Riddler... o.O
  • Carrey was too comedic for me. He played the role as if he was playing the Joker. The riddler isn't really a funny character; he's smooth, in control, and messed up. I remember a comic story where he held a bus of people hostage and if they couldn't answer his riddles, he killed them! I want a dark, smart, Hannibal Lectre of a Riddler.

Go watch Jeff Goldblum go from mild-mannered science geek to mad scientist in The Fly. Dude can act like a mo-fo.
