So what did everyone think of the ‘Lost’ season 5 finale?

Some crazy shit happened that threw me for a loop, but some other stuff happened that I sorta’ saw coming from a mile away. Regardless, I feel like my brain’s just been bent over and fucked like someone’s bitch.

Use the comments to share theories and opinions. Maybe this’ll make the 8-month wait ’til next season hurt a little less.

  • So I'm thinking that Richard comes from the same circle as Jacob and his enemy that took over Locke's body. I'm also thinking that Jacob's enemy either used the likeness of Jack's dad, or there's a 4th ageless person that we haven't met yet.

I'm thinking there's only 3 because check this out from Lostpedia.com

"The opening scene of Jacob spinning is a reference to The Fates; three Greek mythological women who were the spinners of destiny. The first fate spun the thread of life; she determined the time of a person's birth. The second fate measured the thread of life; she determined a person's life span. The third fate was the cutter of the thread of life; she determined the time of a person's death."

I'm pretty sure that Jacob was a good guy just basing it off the fact that he wore a white shirt and his enemy wore a black shirt in the opening scene. Symbolic storytelling.

Also, What lies in the shadow of the statue? "Ille qui nos omnes servabit" aka "He who will save us all."
  • There's an excellent recap of the finale at http://blog.al.com/scenesource/2009/05/lost_recap... , and as I suspected, there are biblical parallels in this episode. Lots of room for interpretation though.

"I was so ready for that bald jackass with the glasses to die in a gruesome way, like the other guy who got the rebar to the chest, but I guess the explosion'll get him."

Probably not, if you remember hes the same guy that was mentioned to be the partner of the other guy in the hatch before Desmond showed up. So unless the time line is altered, he will survive so he can be one of the people who pushes the button to repress the energy.
  • Damn it. Didn't realize that. I hate that guy.
  • So.....if a dead body winds up on the island these guys can take their image? So if anyone died during the crash, they could be one of these guys. Interesting.

I was expecting more revelations, big revelations, so I was a little disappointed. I like how they've turned Miles into the voice of the audience though, "did anyone stop to think that maybe the bomb caused the thing to happen?". Also, that was pretty fucked up when Jacob told Ben, "What about, you?" Why is Jacob going around picking people to go to the island? What's in Hugo's guitar case? And what IS with that giant statue? I'm guessing that setting off the bomb will cause them all to time jump again, so maybe Juliet will live. I guess I missed the part where Sayid bit it. I was so ready for that bald jackass with the glasses to die in a gruesome way, like the other guy who got the rebar to the chest, but I guess the explosion'll get him. Can't wait till next season to finally get some answers.
  • I stand corrected: they never actually showed Sayid die, so there's a chance we'll see him in season six, but I'd just figured that his character's story was pretty much done.

There's one thing that always bothered. A few seasons ago, there's a scene where Miles goes into the house of an old woman, up the stairs into a room and asks a ghost a question. When he comes down stairs, all the pictures and picture frames in the house are completely different. Wtf!?
  • I pretty much knew that Sayid was a goner because he's the only expendable character left. I also knew that they were gonna' wind up detonating the bomb, but I never once wondered if the bomb caused everything in the first place, but then I don't think there'd much of a plot for season 6 if that were the case.

And what's with Jacob and that other dude from the beginning? Are they guardians of the island or something. I'm betting they only have four toes. And if the one dude took Locke's appearance after his body reached the island, and Jacob was chillin' in the foot, who took over Jack's dad's appearance?

    Crazy shit.
