ARhrrr! is a game currently being developed by Georgia Tech’s Augmented Environments Lab using an Nvidia Tegra devkit.
Basically, you use the handheld device as the game’s screen AND controller. So, when you point the camera at your kitchen table, the game shows zombies on your table and you have to shoot them. Of course, you need a special placemat for this to work -- this allows a 3D city to be constructed. You can even place Skittles on the map and they act as powerups that can be activated on the Tegra’s touch screen.
This is some pretty cool tech, but I couldn’t imagine myself running around my coffee table and shooting zombies. Maybe if they turned this sort of thing into the new version of a board game, I could see it being fun for parties and family night. Think about it: you get a box with like 4 cheap touch screen thingies and some maps, then other companies can release new games sold in stores as maps with a code to download the game onto the handhelds.
Or someone could just make porn games with it.
