Albotas Makes Technorati.com's List of Top 100 Gaming Blogs!!!

Last night I found out that my humble little geek blog is listed in the Top 100 Gaming Blogs on the internet according to Technorati.com.

If you’re not aware of the almighty and supreme majesty that is Technorati, here’s how they describe themselves:

The leading blog search engine, Technorati.com indexes millions of blog posts in real time and surfaces them in seconds. The site has become the definitive source for the top stories, opinions, photos and videos emerging across news, entertainment, technology, lifestyle, sports, politics and business. Technorati.com tracks not only the authority and influence of blogs, but also the most comprehensive and current index of who and what is most popular in the Blogosphere.

It’s really an honor to be listed among such great and influential sites (seriously, go check out the list, these sites are awesome!) and I’d always hoped — but never really thought — that my little site could make it this far.

So thanks to all the PR companies and artists for hooking me up with cool news to share and free stuff for reviews and contests, thanks to everyone who’s ever submitted a tip, thanks to all the other blogs for taking notice and linking me, and most of all, thank you crazy kids for reading this garbage every day!

New goal: make Technorati’s list of top 100 sites on the net.

I don't understand how its more awesome.

Your blog is a feed of news you get from other sites.

    web marketers call it spamblogs

You have a few unique posts that I enjoy, though.
  • Hi Joe. Thanks for the comment and I'm glad you like the unique posts! I think you might be a bit confused as to what a spamblog is, though. Spamblogs basically pull RSS feeds from other blogs and mirror the content. I've had a few spam blogs pull the Albotas RSS feed before. It looks like someone just copy/pasted content, but it's a fully automated process. Once the RSS feeds are set up, the site owner just has to sit back and collect advertising dollars.

But other sites that link to other content like this one, BoingBoing.com, Geekologie.com, and so on, provide a good alternative for people who don't have the time to crawl through a variety of different sites and fill up their bookmarks/RSS feeds. Part of the fun of blogging is being able to share great stories and discuss them with your audience. That's why I'll never copy/paste stories from other sites or pull in another site's RSS feed to make it look like original content.

Another big problem with a lot of blogs is the fact that they don't credit their sources. On Albotas, you'll notice a lot of [Via ___] links. Other sites avoid giving credit to their stories because they feel that it makes them appear more legit -- readers think that these uncredited stories are the site's original content, when they really aren't. Some sites even copy/paste entire press releases without letting their readers know that they're not reading the author's own words, while the appropriate thing to do is beak it down in your own words -- that is, after all, the job of a journalist (not saying that bloggers are journalists, but you get me.), to break down PR speak into something the general public can understand.

I have lots of plans to bring in more original content to the site, and I really hope you'll keep visiting and commenting.

    Thanks.
  • Congratulations dude!

I've been enjoying your blog for a while now. I keep thinking about making my own game/art blog, but then I keep designing 'albotas' in my head :P
  • Thanks! Now the next step is to pull in the amount of traffic that the top 10 gaming blogs get. Maybe then I can afford to actually do this for a living and dedicate more time to bringing you more awesomeness!
