Monopoly News: Iron Out, Cat In

The iron token that has existed since the 1930’s is now retiring and being replaced by a cat. Hasbro ran a “Save Your Token,” campaign in which people voted for which token should stay in the Monopoly board game series. The iron only got 8% of votes from 185 different countries in the world. Ouch…

I guess it’s time to modernize this timeless board game by adding a cat to it. The Internet agrees, as voting for a cat token replacement beat out a potential toy robot, guitar, helicopter and diamond ring.

Next month, a “Golden Token” Monopoly will be sold exclusively at Target for $17.99, which will feature the last appearance of the iron token, as well as the five other proposed tokens.
