Kevin Smith is a director with an inconsistent resume; Smith seems to direct films for people who feel nostalgic toward his older work while also creating new properties absolutely no one cares for, aside from those Kevin Smith worshippers themselves. I was once guilty of caring for a Clerks 3 until I remembered Clerks II was a terrible film. Still, there’s a large fanbase for juvenile plots and dick jokes, and Smith has perfected the crafting of both.

A sequel to one of those dick joke movies may be in the works, according to Kevin Smith himself. Smith made an appearance this weekend on a local Tucson morning show, Rock102 Mornings with Shmonty & Carolina, and told the audience Mallrats 2 is definitely filming next year.

“It’s half a script right now, and we’re pulling our loot together. We’ve got up until the beginning of 2016. By the time we get to May 2016, we’re going to be shooting.”

No word on who is involved with the project, but the middle schooler in me hopes Jason Lee will reprise his role as Brodie and there’ll be a Stan Lee cameo that hopefully makes fun of his appearances in the Marvel movies.

Smith also took it to Twitter to tease his fans:

Here’s to hoping this sequel is a fun one, because even if I hate Smith’s inconsistency with movies, I’m still going to watch a Mallrats 2.
