Tee Time: Sesame Street Fighter

June 15th, 2009 by brownkidd

sesamestreetfighter

This Sesamee Street/Street Fighter mashup tee designed by Jared Moraitis for J!NX is freaking excellent. I’m normally not a big fan of J!NX, but this one’s definitely a must-have. I’m especially diggin’ the cookies flying outta’ Cookie Monster’s mouth. Amazing.

Get yours here.

Tee Time: Johnny Cupcakes + The Power Glove = The Power Mitt

June 12th, 2009 by brownkidd

powermittitssobad

“It’s so bad!”

Back in the day, I used to go to a lot of hardcore shows. One band that I’ve had the pleasure of seeing live on a few occasions was a band called On Broken Wings. They played chaotic, off-tempo hardcore with insanely heavy breakdowns that drove the moshers wild. As an added twist, they had a dude on a mixer. What hardcore bands use samples and mixers without coming off as an obnoxious mall-core band like Slipknot? On Broken Wings did, and it ruled. These guys actually have a bonus track on one of their albums that’s a straight up rap song that samples Street Fighter II. Come on, now. How fucking bad ass is that?

So you’re probably wondering: “what the hell does any of this have to do with a Johnny Cupcakes shirt with Nintendo’s Power Glove on it?”

Well, Johnny Cupcakes himself actually used to be in On Broken Wings!!! And the dude DJ-ing on the mixer? Johny. Motherfuckin’. Cupcakes.

So it comes as no surprise that a dude who was in a band that sampled Street Fighter II would throw some video game references in his shirt designs. This Power Mitt tee is the sexiest shirt to come out of Johnny’s oven in a while (the tees over the past 2 years or so have been sort of “meh” for me) and it’s only $35.95 over at the Johnny Cupcakes Shop. And  yes, ladies, they come in chick sizes too.

You might think that $35.99 is a little pricey for a tee, but Johnny Cupcakes shirts are limited edition and each one comes shipped with random awesome crap like candy and old action figures found at yard sales along with the occasional cupcake sprinkle or two, so it’s safe to say it’s money well spent.

So, listen up, stinky friend, take a goddamn shower before your friends jump you, wearing a set of Soap Knuckles so they can beat your dirty ass clean.

Space In-Vader T-Shirt by Steven Lefcourt

May 14th, 2009 by brownkidd

space_in_vader

T-shirts and witty puns go together like penises and vaginas, but Darth Vader and Space Invaders? Well, That’s more like buttsex: a little weird at first, but still awesome.

Designed by Steven Lefcourt for UK gamer fashion label Supercombo, you can score one of these tees for your very own for £14.99 (about $23 US) over at the Supercombo store.

This shirt would go perfect with any hot chicks in booty shorts that you might have lying around.

Homemade Fairy in a Bottle

May 12th, 2009 by brownkidd

bottledfairy

You’ve got no idea how many times I’ve dropped dead after getting kicked in the face by a bad guy and had to wait for the ambulance to shock me back to life. It’s a nuisance and the smell of your own electrocuted flesh lingers in your nostrils for days. Sometimes I really wish I could just imprison my own little life-restoring fairy in a small, uncomfortable bottle that I could wear around my neck.

Thankfully, Etsy craftster YellerCrakka is selling these awesome handmade bottled fairy necklaces that will be instantly recognizeable to anyone who’s played a Zelda game. The fairies are handmade, smaller than a pea, and come in Pink, Violet, Blue, Gold, Red, Green, Bright Pink, or Teal. If you happen to stop by YellerCrakka’s shop and they’re all so out, no biggie, just request one and it’ll be made just for you.

*Note: if you actually die while wearing one of these, a magical fairy won’t really save your life.

Prevent Swine Flu With Style

April 30th, 2009 by brownkidd

swineflustyle

In Japan it’s common practice to wear surgical masks when your sick so that you don’t pass your symptoms onto someone else. Sure, you may look like a jackass, but at least you’re preventing the spread of disease. In America, however, it’s common practice for people to look like jackasses 99% of the time and get easily paranoid by the media. Especially when the media keeps talking about a tiny little pig cold.

But in Mexico, they’ve taken Japan’s love of surgical masks, America’s love of looking like douchebags, and their own fear of being killed by pig sickness and created some awesomely dumb face masks of their own (top row in above pic), but I’m liking the Japanese designs by illustrator Yoriko Yoshida way more (bottom row).

Maybe I’ll just start wearing these in public to freak people out into thinking the swine flu’s spread to our area…

Gremlins Reeboks - Just Don’t Get Them Wet

April 29th, 2009 by brownkidd

mogwaisneak

This year is the 25th anniversary of the Gremlins movies and to celebrate, Reebok has made a Mogwai version of their Omni Light Pumps. If you get this shoe wet and feed it after midnight, it’ll turn into the Reebok Omni Light Stripe colorway pictured below. Okay, not really, but that’s how it went in the movies.

Fun fact: Did you know that the word ‘Mogwai’ is Cantonese for ‘ghost’?

Custom Phoenix Wright Shoes

April 27th, 2009 by brownkidd

The Phoenix Wright games for the Nintendo DS are among my favorite games of all time. I’d rather display these custom Phoenix Wright Vans slip-ons on a shelf than wear them, but that’s just me.

Jeri Ellsworth probably has the most badass purse on the planet. The only downside is the the swarm of nerds that wind up stalking her after they find out about it. To be a girl in the nerd kingdom must be a gift and curse.

Click through for a video of the purse in action.

8-bit Beauty Mask

April 16th, 2009 by brownkidd

pixel_sleepingmask

After working on the 8-Bit Dunny Project for the newly-launched blindboxed.com, I started to see everything in pixels. Even looking the above picture as I type this makes me a bit dizzy, but in a good way. Ever since I saw how Adrian Brody rocked a sleeper mask in The Darjeeling Limited, I’ve wanted one for myself. This mask from Studiobo is perfect for the chic nerd such as myself.

Kirby Throw Pillows

April 16th, 2009 by brownkidd

kirbythrowpillows

My girlfriend’s youngest son Giovanni (JoJo for short) is probably the biggest Kirby fan on the face of the Earth. He draws different Kirby pictures every day and usually cuts them out and plays with them as if they were action figures. He has every Kirby game ever made and his room is filled with plush Kirbys of every kind. For his birthday one year, we made him Kirby cupcakes and he nearly had a heart attack.

If he ever saw these Kirby pillows, his little head would surely explode.
