This poster for Edgar Wright’s (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) live action adaptation of Bryan Lee O’Malley’s Scott Pilgrim comics was revealed at Showest 2010 and it’s a little bit on the epic side. Of epic epicness.
I love that they decided to mirror O’Malleys art in the poster. It helps to boost the confidence that they’ll be staying true to the feel of the books.
Here’s the original art for comparison.
Now if they’d just hurry up and release a trailer already.
The success of The Walt Disney Company’s 1937 feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs influenced Japanese animators. In the 1960s, manga artist and animator Osamu Tezuka [credited with meing the godfather of anime] adapted and simplified many Disney animation-techniques to reduce costs and to limit the number of frames in productions. He intended this as a temporary measure to allow him to produce material on a tight schedule with inexperienced animation-staff.
Thanks to the artist Manon Yapari, the circle is complete.
The Last Call seems like a decent enough concept: audience members register their cell numbers before the screening, then the protagonist calls random audience members and asks for help. I could see it being fun for repeat viewings just to check out the different outcomes, but the over-dumbing of the protagonist seems a bit corny. Do they really need the audience to make ever little decision like “should I go right or left”? Hopefully this sort of thing paves the way for more interactive theater experiences that play out less like choose your own adventure books and more like fully interactive experiences.
Bonus points for the first interactive horror flick that lets you navigate the protagonist through gratuitous sex scenes.

Slow-mo running sequences, feel-good music, and chicks in bikinis. This Lost/Baywatch mashup intro makes the mysterious island from Lost seem like a fun-filled paradise. Kinda’ bummed the smoke monster didn’t get a credit in the title though.
Hot Pocket request from @brownkidd. Keep on mind I’m slightly intoxicated. Also if anyone uses Crayola Markers it will end up looking pretty 3rd grade anyway…
She also did the piece below featuring a cool Dharma bunny.
Remember that Star Wars burlesque show that took place a while ago? Well, someone liked the Storm Trooper chick enough to get her tattooed on their arm. Can’t really blame them for wanting to be able to look at that awesome pair of… um… finely crafted armor all day.
The trailer for Iron man 2 is all over the internet and you’ve probably seen it a gazillion times already, but here’s my take on it: Jokes, armor, explosions, more armor, Sam Rockwell, more armor, cool effects, Scarlett Johansson making my pants tight, and Robert Downey Jr. being awesome.
Still kinda’ bummed about what’s-his-face replacing Terrence Howard as War Machine, but I have a feeling I’ll get over it and enjoy the ride.
I know for a fact that if I had MacGuyver’s cunning turn-anything-into-something powers, I’d totally use them for shit like this. And you would too, so don’t even try to lie!
