The art duo Zim & Zou created this crazy florescent Game Boy that they’ve dubbed “Paper Game” and it even has a removable Tetris cartridge. It also reminds me of fresh 80’s windbreaker jackets, flip-up hats, slap bracelets, and M.C. Hammer pants.

I’d never heard of Australian artist Michael Steele before, but regular Albotas.com commenter and message board user Don Schwabs recently visted a Steele exhibit at Australia’s Gorker Gallery called Accumulating. Don puts it best when he writes “His works are made of pure awesome extract. They’re clusters of colour and show glimpses of all the cool shit from your childhood (well, mine and anyone else born in the 80s at least). It’s almost as if the little prince from Katamari has rolled his ball through my mind and picked up all the stuff I love then dumped it on canvas.”
Go to any art shows lately? Know of any that are coming up? Why not share the awesomeness over on our message boards?
Cool Kids Never Die is a sweet looking pop culture inspired art show taking place in New Mexico on February 20th and from the looks of the art below, this event will be nothing short of awesome.
You can check out more work from the show and more info over on Robots & Monsters.
Spotted this handmade Liono plushie over on Etsy. It was made by the awesomely-named Love and a Sandwich and I think you’ll agree that it’s pretty freaking badass.
I’ve featured countless custom designer toys and custom console mods on Albotas throughout the years, but these custom NES systems by Thretris (spotted on Tiny Cartridge) are the first I’ve seen that have sort of a designer toy aesthetic. The polish and level of professional quality on these are amazing.
The line between toy customizing and console modding is just a bit more blurry.
This is the Killtendo Entertainment System (KES) and is a companion to another Thretris custom, the Billtendo Killboy
Dubbed Sky, all I can think of when I look at this one is Mega Man.
This one’s called 80’s Reborn, which I can kind of see, but this one gives off the biggest designer toy vibe.
And since we’re on the topic of custom NES consoles, check out this red velvet NES by Phil McCoy and sexy-ass Battletoads NES by Phil’s friend Greg which were also featured on Tiny Cartridge:
If you’ve ever wondered who would win a fight between Strawberry Shortcake & Rainbow Brite or Teddy Ruxpin versus a Care Bear, here’s your answer.
Jude Buffum from The Autumn Society of Philadelphia created these two paintings, dubbed “Rainbow Bloodbath” and “Care Bear Carnage” featuring the cutest characters that the 80’s had to offer, only they’re engaged in an 8-bit Mortal Kombat.
Limited prints are available for only $35 on Jude’s site.
So this robot lives in hell, but he gets lonely, so he creates a boy in a jean jacket with a Game Boy so that he can play some Tetris with him. The boy beats the robot in Tetris and then kills him with his magic finger powers. Wait… what?
