The forefather of apocalyptic zombie horror, George A. Romero was born on February 4th in the year 1940 and today he celebrates his 70th birthday. He’s most famous for his series of zombie films: Night of the Living Dead, Day of the Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Land of the Dead, and Diary of the Dead. His 1973 film The Crazies (think Night of the Living Dead, only people are turning into psycho serial killers instead of zombies) has recently been remade and hits theaters on February 26th. Happy birthday, George! You’ve made planet Earth, like, a gazillion times more awesome.

A lot of people might remember Captain Lou Albano from the golden days of WWF wrestling, but I’ll always remember him as the original Super Mario. I can fondly remember rushing home from school (back when I was in kindergarten) to catch the newest episode of The Super Mario Super Show to see the Cap’n work his magic on my tiny adolescent brain. Louis Vincent Albano died Wednesday morning on October 14th of 2009 at the age of 76. Let’s not think of this as GAME OVER. Instead, let’s think this as the Cap’n finally making it to that bonus round in the clouds. Rest in piece, Captain.
