Scott Pilgrim creator Bryan Lee O’Malley retweeted these custom statues of Scott Pilgrim and Ramona Flowers with Scott hiding in her purse, (Remember? In that one part from the comix when that thing happened? Fun times.) made by Ollie_jones.
I’m totally and completely one hundred fucking percent ready for the onslaught of Scott Pilgrim promo junk that’s most likely about to drop with the release of the movie in August. Bring it on me!
Tony Nakanari from Mai Hiro turned Tokyo Plastic’s 12″ Geisha figure into a badass Hello Kitty themed piece for a private collector. I’d totally buy a poster, sticker, or shirt with the spiky-haired Hello Kitty flipping the bird.
Tony Nakanari just sent in pics of his first custom of 2010. His name is Akaoni (sometimes spelled Aka Oni which means “Red Devil” or “Red Demon”) and he was made using an 8″ Bic Buddy figure designed by Marka27. About the piece, Nakanari says:
Here’s that painting he’s talking about. This dude needs to stop with the crazy clean lines. He’s just too good. The Bic Buddy Custom Show will take place on both coasts, starting off in Los Angeles @ Crewest (3.27, 6 to 9 PM) and then in Brooklyn @ Zakka (4.9, 6 to 9 PM).
DLi$h just sent it pics of his latest work: a pair of custom Skullcandy SK-Pro headphones with a custom 8″ Lilly Black figure. They look like something a DJ would wear while spinning at a rave in a steampunk post-apocalyptic future. Don’t believe me? Hit the jump for a better look. Rsin must’ve just read my beef with toys piece because he just sent in pics of a SICK new custom piece that he did for someone. I was actually at the first local show this dude had a few years ago and his skills have leveled up by leaps and bounds. Here’s what he has to say about the piece:
Here’s a gallery showing off more of the Ice Grabbit along with the Fire Grabbit. Excellent photos of an excellent custom.
Megan Smithyman aka MeSmithy sent in these pics of her latest creations — custom Di Di and Mei Mei figures from Crazylabel’s House of Lui series. She says that these customs are meant to represent the Chinese Zodiac with Di Di as the tiger and Mei Mei as the sheep. Click through for more pics. This 18″ custom Knuckle Bear by Lunabee is freaking gorgeous. It was done for Iksentrik’s Knuckle Sandwich custom show in the UK. Somebody needs to put this girl’s work into mass production so I can have it on my shelf.
When the inevitable zombie apocalypse arrives and shakes humanity down to it’s core, this is the only weapon I’d feel safe defending myself and my loved ones with. [Via Hello Kitty Hell] Also, is anyone else’s mind so conditioned by pop culture and video games that they think of a chainsaw as a weapon instead of a tool, or is it just me? This post is a collection of images from chiptune file sharing site 8bitcollective.com. They were designed by a lineup of talented artists and chiptuners using all kinds of different materials and techniques, but they all have something in common: they’re all totally badass and a little bit on the awesome side. MeSmithy dropped a line to let us know about her Red Cross custom Mini Munny which is currently up for auction on Ebay. The proceeds will go towards the Red Cross to help the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. About the piece, she says:
This is a great chance to own an awesome piece of art and help some people out at the same time. You can find the auction here.
On the final Friday of every month, Nakanari of Mai Hiro will be pumping out super-limited batches of customized Ninja Spiki figures. Each run will be limited to only 3 pieces and come signed & numbered. The above custom is called Mono Spiki and as with all Nakanari customs, it’s been “created with the same quality that makes Nakanari’s style so unique: 100% acrylic paint + brush. No taping. No BS. Nakanari Style.” Be sure to check out maihiro.bigcartel.com on the final Friday of every month to check out the new freshness.
To celebrate the recent launch of ChipMusic.org, chiptuner/console modder extraordinaire Thretris banged out this hot Game Boy complete with a Pro Sound Mod and custom lettering. Strongly considering making an Albotas Game Boy. |
