Brazillian artist Thiago Frias just finished up his latest project, the Hi Dresser, and I want one. Looks like he just took an old dresser and put down layer upon layer of colorful lettering and designs and the result is nothing short of awesome.
My friend Thunderpanda dropped a line to let me know about these awesome magnets that he designed for Slanted Toys. They’re $5 each or you can get the set of 4 for $15 (shipping not included) by emailing thunderpanda(at)thunderpanda(dot)com.
There’s also a set designed by Pamela Halomoan which you can check out after the jump.
Rsin must’ve just read my beef with toys piece because he just sent in pics of a SICK new custom piece that he did for someone. I was actually at the first local show this dude had a few years ago and his skills have leveled up by leaps and bounds.
Here’s what he has to say about the piece:
This is the second Ice Grabbit I was asked to do by a private collector who wanted a set. So we decided on 1 fire and 1 Ice. I completed the Fire grabbit a few weeks back and had to figure a way to make the ice one just as good. So I spent the past 2 weeks trying to find me something I could use on it so it wasn’t just painted. Finally I decided to create a patch of Ice shards coming out its back. Love the way the two pieces look together. I have a lot of fun working with these Grabbits. Anyway enjoy, comments appreciated, and if interested in work please email me Rsinart@msn.com. Thanks
Here’s a gallery showing off more of the Ice Grabbit along with the Fire Grabbit. Excellent photos of an excellent custom.
The Triceracopter looks like something straight out of a cheesy Saturday morning kid’s cartoon, but it’s actually a sculpture by Patricia Renick who made it way back in 1977. Now all we need is for somebody to make a T-Rex Tank, a Pterodactyl Jet, and a Velociraptor Motorcylce, then figure out a way to combine them into one ultimate mech-thingy, and planet Earth can finally die knowing man has made the ultimate creation.
Markie Darkie is a Canadian graphic designer/photographer/visual artist who has made some of the most mind-blowing custom vinyls you’ve ever seen. His use of sculpting, abstract imagery, and colors are sure to inspire veteran toy artists and n00bs alike.
This poster, titled “Love For Games“, was originally made for the German computer magazine GEE, but now you can buy your very own right here! This is overstock from the magazine, so the poster comes folded with interviews on the back as originally intended for publishing.
Every geek wall needs this. If you disagree, I have no choice but to punch you in the face. Through the internet.
Artist and toy designer Joe Ledbetter has some fresh new pillowcases for you to rest your nugget on coming out this March through Tenacious Toys. Each pack comes with two standard-sized 20 x 30 inch pillowcases in a 73/27 cotton/poly blend and they’ll cost around $28 per pack.
I’ve noticed that the retro gaming aesthetic is becoming increasingly popular in the media and advertising lately. Above is a Nike ad featuring the French footballer Patrice Evra.
As both a huge typography nerd and a fan of metal, this book featuring the works of heavy metal typography god Christophe Szpajdel is right up my alley.
This book is a collection of work by Christophe Szpajdel, an artist whose fans in the underground black metal community worship him as the Lord of the Logos. It includes hundreds of powerful logos, each of which captures the force of this musical genre anew. Through his surprising use of aesthetic influences such as art deco and nature, Szpajdel has brought a new dynamic into the gothic visuality of heavy metal. This publication, which is done in the style of a black prayerbook, shows not only how he has succeeded in leaving his own visual mark on this music, but how he has also expanded the canon of forms it uses.
