Flipper, the awesome looking indie game by Goodbye Galaxy Games is out RIGHT NOW as a DSi download for 500 points, so what the eff are you waiting for?
Here’s a description of the game from the Goodbye Galaxy Games website:
Your best friend in the world is a goldfish named Flipper. One night when you fall asleep, he gets kidnapped.
Of course you’re not going to rest until you rescued your friend!
The game is a puzzle-adventure game. And the basic goal is to find Flipper. Which is a lot harder than it sounds thanks to many obstacles and enemies that block your path!
Use the power up’s to completely change the landscape to your advantage build bridges, staircases or blow up everything!
And just look at these screens!!!
I get a real Paul Robertson vibe from this -- which is awesome!
It’s also interesting to see how far the game’s come along. For instance, check out this early trailer:
And now compare it with this newer trailer:
The main thing you’ll notice is that the hero looks way different. While browsing the Goodby Galaxy Games blog, I found out it was because “… nobody seemed to love the nerd-character. The boy is just easier to bond with.” I’m kind of hoping the oldschool hero is unlockable or something.
If anybody winds up getting this, let me know in the comments, or better yet, start a discussion over on the Albotas message boards!
Action RPG Legends of Exidia is the latest DSiWare title from Gameloft and while watching the trailer, you’ll notice that this game looks like it plays a lot like the Zelda games — until you see the crazy dragon-riding boss battle with what looks like Quick Time Events. For 800 Nintendo points, this one looks worth the download.
From the press release:
An army of demons called Morgost has invaded Exidia, defeating Princess Sofia and capturing the Orb of Spell. The Morgost’s dark intentions include the resurrection of the almighty Daraka. Listen only to your courage and help Sofia drive back this threat. As a fearless warrior, you’ll fight the most evil of creatures. With every quest, you’ll get closer to discovering the source of the plague.
From January 30th to February 14th if you take your DS or DSi and a copy of Pokemon Platinum/Diamond/Pearl to your nearest GameStop you can download a special Pikachu-Colored Pichu. If you transfer this special Pichu to your Heart Gold or Soul silver game, you’ll be able to catch a Spiky-Eared Pichu.
Other than looking different than your run-of-the-mill-Pichu, I’m not too sure what other advantages Pikachu-Colored Pichu and Spiky-Eared Pichu have.
Escapee GO! just hit the DSiWare shop today for a measly 200 Nintendo Points ($2) and it looks pretty awesome. it’s made by Gevo Entertainment, one of the first companies from Singapore to start developing console games.
In Escapee GO!, you will take the role of Claire, who awakes with no memory of who she is. Save for her name, all information about her has been destroyed. In its place, something within her has changed. Hunted down by an unknown enemy, she must find a way to escape her pursuers using her new found powers. Will she be able to survive?
- Story Mode: Join Claire on the escape of a lifetime through multiple levels and a variety of environments. Challenge yourself on 3 difficulty settings!
- Survival Mode: Unlocked after completing Story Mode, players must survive against impossible odds and avoid capture at all costs!
- Multiplayer Mode: Supporting up to 4 players with DS Wireless Play, Escapee GO! multiplayer endless fun for your group of friends!
The official site (which has a really sexy design btw) has character bios featuring some awesome pixel art. I’ve also taken the liberty of throwing a little image gallery and the Escapee GO! trailer below, because I’m cool like that.

Albotas.com has been invited to partake in a contest over at www.dsi-xl.co.uk where one lucky site-owner will win a free DSi XL BEFORE the official release date! This is a DSi XL imported straight from Japan which means I’ll be able to review plenty of import DSi and DSiWare titles!
There’s some really amazing sites involved in this contest and I really don’t think Albotas will win, but please go vote anyway!!!
I’ve been listed in the contest for about week and I’m only now getting around to mentioning it T____T I have some catching up to do, so please go here and vote!
I figure, Albotas gets anywhere from 1,000 to 3,000 visits on a given day. If everyone that visits votes, I may have a fighting chance!!!

As the ‘80s were drawing to a close, the developers at Capcom began work on a top secret project that aimed to set new standards for the platformer genre. That game was called “Dark Rift”, and it blended the intense shooting action of Section Z™ with the latest innovations in platform jumping from Mega Man. In order to properly fulfill the producer’s vision for Dark Rift (later renamed Dark Void), the hardware engineering team at Capcom was enlisted to design and produce an all-new chipset that would be included in every cartridge, enabling huge numbers of sprites and never-before-seen special effects to be displayed on the aging NES® platform and the PlayChoice-10 NES arcade cabinet.
Alas, time waits for no man and game developers are no exception. The dawn of the Super Nintendo Entertainment System® made the additional hardware requirements for Dark Void redundant. Capcom suspended development on Dark Void as it began to evaluate the SNES. Before long, the game was shelved and drifted into the annals of gaming history. Even the internal tape-based archives were lost due to an unfortunate magnet incident which even today is best left un-discussed. Dark Void became a legendary “lost project” at Capcom…until now.
Nearly twenty years later the next gen version of the game, Dark Void, is back on the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC! But to commemorate the game’s humble origins, Capcom has commissioned this recreation of the original 8-bit classic, now re-titled “Dark Void Zero,” on the DSi platform. You play Rusty, the first human born in the Void, who must take on the Watchers in a quest to stop their domination of Earth. With the aid of Nikola Tesla, and his state-of-the-art rocket pack, Rusty must take down the Watchers and their minions across three intense levels of action and intrigue.
I’ve gotta’ admit, when Dark Void was originally announced, I was pretty excited, but I haven’t really been keeping up with it. The announcement of an 8-bit Dark Void DSiWare game has my interest piqued once again. This is the DSiWare that I’ve been waiting for -- the type of DSiWare that should have been out with the system’s launch. Oh Capcom, so glad you’ve found that the way to a nerd’s heart is through pixels and chiptunes.
Yes, this is an actual screenshot from the game. You actually have to blow into the DSi microphone to get the game started. Freaking brilliant!

Fight With Photos: Photo Fighter X is a 2D fighter from Nintendo exclusively for the DSi. It lets you create your own fighters, objects, backgrounds, and special moves using the DSi camera. You can also use the DSi’s built-in microphone to record your own sound effects. And best of all, it’s only 200 Nintendo Points ($2).
Check out the trailer:
There’s a single player mode that let’s you take on 100 enemies, beat-’em-up style. There’s also a 2 player versus mode, but you have to share the DSi which doesn’t sound too appealing. I’d rather be able fight with my friends over Wi-Fi and trade fighters.
Let’s be honest, how many of you assholes are gonna’ take pictures of your wangs and butts for this?
BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger by Arc System Works was easily one of the best fighting games to come out in 2009 and the series is finally making it’s debut on a Nintendo system. BlazBlue Battle X Battle will be available as a DSiWare download for 500 pts. in Japan some time in January. Unlike Calamity Trigger, Battle X Battle features ultra-cute big-headed versions of the BlazBlue characters, a simplified control scheme, and free-roaming battles (think Power Stone, Bushido Blade, Ehrgiz) that support up to 4 players.
You can check out a video here around the 37 minute mark.
Why can’t more amazing DSiWare announcements come along. I’m sick of calculators.
Since I have the word “gentleman” in the title of this post, I figured that now would be a perfect time to utilize a a pretty amazing jpeg that’s been collecting dust on my desktop.
Ready? Here it is:
Okay. Now that I’ve gotten that out of my system, we now return you to your regular scheduled post about something.
Professor Layton is the frustrating-but-awesome brain teaser game for the DS that everyone loves, but few have the patience to actually complete.
Mori games has designed a very gentlemanly DS/DSi case shaped to look like a book and it even features the professor layton tophat logo embossed on the front and on the zipper pulls. it can be yours for $23.90 from NCSX.
If you’re not quite one for gentlemanly leather cases, there’s also these DSi covers in brown and a slightly-less gentlemanly wine red.
The DSi covers are available from NCSX as well for only $20.90. If you have to chose, I’d say spend the extra $3 and go for the awesome leather bookish one. Go big or go home and good day, sirs!
If you thought the PSP Go was stupid, get a load of this garbage. Not even a full year after the release of the DSi, Nintendo announced the DSi XL (DSi LL in Japan), which is basically just an oversized DSi for old people. With colors like Wine Red, Dark Brown, and Natural White, I doubt many kids or tech-savvy adults will be putting this on their X-mas lists.
And oh my God look how big the stylus is!
The 4.3″ screens are a whopping 93% larger than the DS Lite and each DSi LL/XL comes pre-loaded with two Brain Training mini games and the DS Easy Dictionary. No word on whether or not the built-in memory will be bigger than the original DSi.
The DSi LL is scheduled to hit Japan on November 21st for ¥20,000 (US$220) and a DSi XL European release is set for Q1 2010.
For $220 this thing had better be able to suck my dick or at least give me a hand job. Otherwise I’m holding out for the DSi XXL Pocket Mini.
Check out this Kotaku post for a list of DS Lite vs DSi vs DSi XL specs.
If you have a DSi and $25 to spare, why not waste it on Nyko’s Zoom Case. The Zoom Case takes higher quality images with a humorously enormous 8x zoom lens. The lens can be detached from the case, but there’s still a bulky nub over the DSi’s camera lens, so this doesn’t seem like the most pocket-friendly DSi case out there.
It looks like images taken with the Nyko Zoom Case still retain that DSi graininess, but it’s nice that Nyko’s thinking about those hardcore DSi photogs. The $25 doesn’t hurt much either.
Here’s the detachable lens which actually looks quite sturdy.
And here’s all the whozits and whatnots that it comes with. As silly as it is, for only $25 I think I want one.
So I saw this post on Figure.fm where a dude customized his PSP and he had all these sweet One Piecestraps on it which I thought looked pretty fresh. Then I felt the sudden urge to decorate my DSi with a gazillion bulky-but-cute straps, so I headed over to Play-Asia.com to start my quest.
I found these sweet Kingdom Hearts straps for only $9.90 each and I’m pretty sure I need the Sora and Cloud straps in order to live a happy life. For real.
There’s also Roxas, Riku, and Kairi who are also crazy cute. The more I look at ‘em, the more I’m thinking about just getting the whole set. Probably not the wisest investment, but I’ve spent more on way dumber crap.
Gameloft’s mobile phone version of The Oregon Trail is getting ported over to the DSi via DSiWare. I haven’t played The Oregon Trail since about 5th grade, so I’ll probably get this if the price isn’t too steep. And by “too steep,” I mean over 200 points. Seriously, this is just a port after all.
This new version has some obvious improvements over the original PC game, such as an improved interface, more stylized graphics, and of course, doodoo jokes like “I poo’d my pants” and “Dung Da Dung-Dung Dung! Buffalo chips are a great source of fuel.”
I have a deep, masochistic love for bullet hell shmups. They’re probably the most difficult games to beat, but I just have so much fun playing them. Seeng all those bullets gives me goosebumps all over my body. Even on my privates.
Japanese DSi owners will get to taste the sextacular orgasmatude of Aa Mujou Setsuna(Oh Heartless Moment) for DSiWare next week. If Nintendo doesn’t bring this game to America, they strongly deserve a swift kick to the riceballs. I’d also appreciate it if they brought this game to the states before flooding the DSiWare shop with any more fucking calculators. For fuck’s sake.
