It’s obvious that Japanese indie developer Frontier Aja was inspired by Castlevania when they made their upcoming PC game Koumajou Densetsu: Scarlet Symphony, but check out the boss battle at the end of the video and you’ll instantly be reminded of classic bullet hell shmups like Triggerheart Excelica and Castle Shikigami and DeathSmiles.
I like the technical little stuff, like how your character’s area for damage detection shrinks when you’re in flight mode, allowing you to graze bullets which is a typical mechanic of the shmup genre. It’s like someone created the ultimate game of my dreams!
If you have Windows, you can download a free trial of Koumajou Densetsu: Scarlet Symphony here.
