Pre-orders for Rider Figma Open 2/16

Good Smile Co. just dropped word on the Figma Blog that they’ll be releasing a Figma version of Rider from the manga/anime series Fate/Stay Night. This is easily one of the coolest Figmas yet as far as how technical it is. First off, this is the first Figma to be released with a double-jointed neck. This one done so that collectors can display Rider in her crouched attack pose, which you’ll see after the jump. Another issue Good Smile had to overcome was the hair. Characters with a lot of hair have always been somewhat difficult to pose, but Rider has jointed hair made out of a soft, flexible material that allows for some really cool poses.

Pre-orders for Rider go up on February 16th and she will be released this May. Otacute.com usually puts pre-orders like this up around 10pm EST, so I’ll definitely be camping on the site for this one.

Michael Jackson Figma with Articulated Tippy-Toe Action!

This past weekend the Wonder Festival took place in Japan and bajillions of new collectible figures were shown off for droves of otaku to oggle over, but one of the standouts was this Micheal Jackson Figma from Good Smile Company. The figure features the King of Pop in his Thriller attire, and his tippy toes bend!!! I just wonder if this will come with any accessories, like maybe his zombie face or a face with the Thriller eyes. Mwuhahahahah!!

Azusa Nakano Nendoroid Announced

Aw shit! The GSC Blog just got updated with this single pic of a Nendoroid of Azusa Nakano (aka Azu-nyan) from the K-ON! anime series.

Alafista.com is reporting that pre-orders will open tomorrow, but I couldn’t find that information anywhere. Google Translator (not the most accurate, I know) says “information will start tomorrow” which I’m assuming means the official Good Smile Co. site will have more pics and details. Either way, I’ll be camping on the major Japanese online hobby shops just to be safe.

Check out the vid below to get the full story behind Azu-nyan’s cat ears and her nickname.

Tsumugi Kotobuki Figma Coming This April!

The Figma Blog just announced details for the release of Tsumugi Kotobuki aka Mugi-Chan from the much-loved K-ON! series. It was only last week that Mio-chan was announced and it looks like hardcore K-ON! fans have yet another reason to open up their wallets.

1/7 Saber ~Triumphant Excalibur~ from Good Smile Co.

Good Smile Co. just announced the pre-order of Saber from the upcoming Fate/Stay Night movie in this gorgeous Triumphant Excalibur edition. The pose on this thing is crazy-dynamic, but I’m surprised that such a little wire can support the whole piece. One almost wonders if this will be prone to toppling over. Let’s hope not, because this figure is truly sick.

Yuzuko Hayakawa 1/8th Scale PVC Figure from Good Smile Company

1_2009Oct20195755_2717

This Yuzuko Hayakawa PVC figure from Good Smile Company is the first PVC figure that’s blown my mind in a while. I’ve always been a fan of figures that display a good amount of motion and this piece does it in spades. I’m especially loving the swirly chain.

Since I’m not all that familiar with the character, here’s the official press statement:

From the manga currently serialized in YOUNG GANGAN magazine, authored by Dai Satou and drawn by Maseru Gotsubo – ‘Yuzuko Peppermint’, comes a PVC figure of the stylish, silent high school girl, ‘Yuzuko Hayakawa’!

Yuzuko is the wielder of the special ability ‘Peppermint’, that acts as a powerful stimulant whenever she becomes angered. Her normal long black straight hair, as well as the peppermint green hair are both included, allowing you to pose her both before and after using her ‘Peppermint’ ability. The huge iron ball she wields whilst fighting, ‘Shiranuhi’ is also included.

The figure will be sold together with an original drama CD story, written by Dai Satou, placed on a drama CD with a wonderful cast, as well as a booklet including illustrations by Maseru Gotsubo!

You can currently pre-order Yuzuko over at Play-Asia, but hurry because supplies are limited.

New Nerd Addiction: Figmas

Figma_Collection

I like to think of myself as somewhat of a masculine dude. I rock a mohawk, tattoos, and facial piercings. I enjoy going out to clubs and “getting crunk” with my friends and dry humping with the ladies on the dance floor. I enjoy beer pong, keg stands, and shots. I have a penis. I have facial hair. I enjoy aggressive heavy metal music, and most of all, vaginas.

But I also like really cute Japanese things.

I’ve been collecting toys for a few years now, but my preference is usually either urban designer toys, or anime figures. As a rule, I usually hate on anything with obvious articulation. After all, joints are for action figures, and action figures are for little kids and uber-geeks, not cool kids like myself.

The first time I ever saw a Figma figure, I almost vomited all over myself. I think I actually diarrhead my pants from the sickness that was induced by the tacky display of ball-joints. Gross.

But then something happened. After a routine of browsing sites like DannyChoo.com and Figure.fm on a daily basis, I slowly succumbed to the cuteness of these articulated toys. I found myself falling in love with the little things, like how each figure comes with a number of faces with different expressions and extra sets of hands, each uniquely posed, or how each Figma includes a base for maximum diverse displayability.

Not to mention, there’s all kinds of accessories like mopeds and display stages than you can decorate using printed-out backgrounds. You can even download papercraft accessories like hats and Christmas trees from the Figma site!

You can find Figmas based on characters from popular anime and manga series like Lucky Star, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya, Fate/Stay Night, and more. And while the PVC and resin statues that I’m used to collecting tend to hover around the $100 range, figmas are only about $35. They also look damn good on a shelf.

If you’ve been following the site this week, you know that I just recently visited the 2009 New York Anime Festival. My main goal at the festival was to either purchase a Haruhi Suzumiya or Hatsune Miku figma, but sadly, I wasn’t aware of how rare they are. However, I did find both Ryomou Shimei and Kanu Unchou from Ikki Tousen. I had some trouble deciding which one to get because Ryomou is my all time favorite, but the Kanu figure is just so badass looking.

Check out her friggin’ sword thingie!

She also came with a spare set of knockers, which I found kinda’ weird. While she’s not necessarily ultra-cute, she’s definitely badass. I just can’t wait to get more so that I can line my walls Danny-Choo-style.

Figmas are produced by Max Factory and distributed by Good Smile Company.

Does anybody else collect Figmas? Let me know in the comments.

Nendoroid Petite: Death Note – Case File #01

deathnotecasefiles01

These Nendoroid Petite figures based on characters from Death Note are so fucking adorable. Each figure even comes with tiny little accessories! Too bad they don’t come out until October, but you can pre-order ‘em over at Play-Asia for $6.49 apiece. The only downside is each one is shipped randomly, so there’s really no telling what you’ll get. Good Smile Company is also currently at work on Case File #02 which will feature even more Death Note figures.

Check out the Good Smile Company site for pics of each figure with it’s accessories.
