Flipper, the awesome looking indie game by Goodbye Galaxy Games is out RIGHT NOW as a DSi download for 500 points, so what the eff are you waiting for?
Here’s a description of the game from the Goodbye Galaxy Games website:
Your best friend in the world is a goldfish named Flipper. One night when you fall asleep, he gets kidnapped.
Of course you’re not going to rest until you rescued your friend!
The game is a puzzle-adventure game. And the basic goal is to find Flipper. Which is a lot harder than it sounds thanks to many obstacles and enemies that block your path!
Use the power up’s to completely change the landscape to your advantage build bridges, staircases or blow up everything!
And just look at these screens!!!
I get a real Paul Robertson vibe from this -- which is awesome!
It’s also interesting to see how far the game’s come along. For instance, check out this early trailer:
And now compare it with this newer trailer:
The main thing you’ll notice is that the hero looks way different. While browsing the Goodby Galaxy Games blog, I found out it was because “… nobody seemed to love the nerd-character. The boy is just easier to bond with.” I’m kind of hoping the oldschool hero is unlockable or something.
If anybody winds up getting this, let me know in the comments, or better yet, start a discussion over on the Albotas message boards!
Dudebro, My Shit is Fucked Up So I Got to Shoot/Slice You II: It’s Straight-Up Dawg Time is a top-down shooter currently being developed Grimoire Assembly Forge, a bunch of NeoGAF forum members.
This whole thing started when forum member cuyahoga was called a pedophile after admitting his love for the DS game Imagine: Babyz Fashion. He replied to the remarks, saying “So, I’m a pedophile because I don’t want to play Dudebro, My Shit is Fucked Up So I Got to Shoot/Slice You II: It’s Straight-Up Dawg Time? To throw around these sort of accusations at someone who seeks to do something different suggests quite the insecurity on your part.”
Kydos Studio just released Soul on Xbox Live Indie Games for just one dollar! This looks like it’ll have some survival-horror-ish scares mixed in with some simple-yet-addictive gameplay.
In Soul your goal is to bring the soul of a dead man to heaven throughout mazes that are going to test your dexterity and composure.
Are you good enough to avoid ending up in hell ?
Escapee GO! just hit the DSiWare shop today for a measly 200 Nintendo Points ($2) and it looks pretty awesome. it’s made by Gevo Entertainment, one of the first companies from Singapore to start developing console games.
In Escapee GO!, you will take the role of Claire, who awakes with no memory of who she is. Save for her name, all information about her has been destroyed. In its place, something within her has changed. Hunted down by an unknown enemy, she must find a way to escape her pursuers using her new found powers. Will she be able to survive?
- Story Mode: Join Claire on the escape of a lifetime through multiple levels and a variety of environments. Challenge yourself on 3 difficulty settings!
- Survival Mode: Unlocked after completing Story Mode, players must survive against impossible odds and avoid capture at all costs!
- Multiplayer Mode: Supporting up to 4 players with DS Wireless Play, Escapee GO! multiplayer endless fun for your group of friends!
The official site (which has a really sexy design btw) has character bios featuring some awesome pixel art. I’ve also taken the liberty of throwing a little image gallery and the Escapee GO! trailer below, because I’m cool like that.
Been waiting for this to come out since I first heard about it some time last year. Too bad it’s for PC only.
Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead is a retro de-make of Valve’s hit zombie killing masterpiece. Lovingly recreated in a fashion that would have been acceptable in 1986 for the Nintendo Entertainment System, this de-make stands as the flagship title of the upcoming Pixel Force series from Eric Ruth Games. Go alone, or invite a friend for 2 player co-op against the zombie apocalypse in all 4 of the original game campaigns. 2 difficulties and all 4 of the survivors make a glorious 8-bit appearence, complete with first and second tier weapons scattered along your path to escape. So, grab your controller of choice and kick back with an award-winning retro take on the end of the world with Pixel Force: Left 4 Dead.
Words can’t express how excited I am for this game. Boss Rush lets you control one of five of huge boss ships to fight a puny little hero ship. There’s also a 2-Player VS Mode where one person is the hero and the other plays as the boss. It all sounds pretty epic.
Have you ever played a bullet-hell-style shooter and thought to yourself “That boss looks like they’re having a lot more fun than I am…”?
I mean, think about it. You have a tiny little ship, capable of only firing straight ahead. Your weapons are puny until you power them up, and even then seem decidedly inferior to what you’re fighting against. Your armor is apparently made from paper-mâché, and usually can’t even survive one hit before you blow up and lose all your toys.
Meanwhile…
Over on the other side of the screen, the boss is chortling gleefully, launching wave after screen-obscuring wave of bullets in beguilingly beautiful patterns, the merest touch of which will destroy your ship. All while absorbing enough damage to sink an aircraft carrier, without even getting his paint scratched.
It hardly seems fair!
It’s not fair, in fact!
Haven’t you ever wished that that could be YOU over there? Calmly making horribly devious patterns of deadly bullets? That you could then admire and fully appreciate, because the actual task of figuring out how to avoid them was someone else’s problem?
If so, then this, ladies and gentlemen, may be the game for you!
The developers, Paper Dino Software, promise over 50 different levels, 3 difficulty levels, the aforementioned VS Mode, and endless Survival Mode, and, of course, plenty of secret unlockables, like Unicorn mode, whatever the fuck that is…
Boss Rush was officially completed this past November, but the developer’s currently looking for a sponsor and more details will be made available at a later date.
You should also check out the game’s soundtrack by Justin Mullens at the bottom of this page.
Fez is that blew the collective minds of gamers at the 2008 Independent Games Festival. The creative use of 2D mixed with 3D was awesome enough, but the effects were enhanced with the awesome soundtrack by chiptune artist 6955.
Three unreleased demo tracks are available for free in the form of an EP (implying that a full album is on the way?) that Polytron Corporation has made available as a free download here. There’s also a torrent available right here. Or, for the super-duper-hardcore, there’s the mega-limited, awesomely-packaged 8cm CDR (pictured above) for only $10 — ten fucking dollars, people!!! — and it’s limited to just 250 copies in the entire galaxy!!!
Whoever buys this for me gets a blowjob, clitoris tickle, or ham sandwich in return. I’ll make the ham sandwich myself, but I can’t say the same about the other rewards.
Totally irrelevant, but somewhat related side story:
So, back when Fez was first announced, my girlfriend made these awesome plushies of Gomez, the game’s main character. She hand-made 50 of these things and sold ‘em all on Etsy. Eventually, Phil Fish from Polytron Corporation caught wind of it and sent an email asking that she limits production to no more than 50 because what my gf was doing was basically copyright infringement and they’d hoped to make Fez plushies at some point. He also asked if he could have one.
The plan was for my GF to make a Fez for everyone at Polytron, but after the initial 50, her hands were all kinds of jacked up, so she took a small break which turned into a huge break which turned into her never getting around to it at all. I feel pretty shitty about the whole ordeal and I think that Phil Fish hates my guts and everything Albotas-related. Maybe I’ll get the GF a sewing machine for X-mas so she can finished what her lazy woman ass started.

Indie game designer Eric Ruth is currently working on a Left 4 Dead “de-make” featuring 8-bit graphics and sounds and each map and campaign from the original game. Eric just wrapped up on the first mission, “No Mercy” and he expects the game to be completed by early January 2010 and he’ll release it as a free download for PC.
Although, since the game only allows for 2 players as opposed to 4, shouldn’t it be called Left 2 Die?
For those of you who read that last post and didn’t believe me, here’s some sprites. The idea is to create a short game, but it’d probably be way easier to make a short movie in Flash. Either way, it still has a long way to go.
The main premise is that ALBOTAS.COM exploded from all the awesomeness, so you get to play as brownkidd (aka me) and go through various games and fight weird creatures/pop culture icons. Oh, and there’s an invincibility star that turns me into a rampaging zombie!
Spoiler alert: the final level is gonna’ be a shmup with an evil version of the Albotapus logo as the boss.
I’ve always wanted to make my own game, so I’d really like to make this a short game using Game Maker instead of just making a Flash video. I’ve already made some crappy breakout clones, but I’m hoping I’m in over my head. I’ll keep you dudes updated with new characters and animations and whatnot.
River City Dodgeball All-Stars is an updated re-make of the classic Super Dodgeball, which my local arcade actually has on a big-screen Neo Geo Arcade!
The premise is simple: Don’t get hit by the ball! You control players inside the main dodgeball arena, but you also have guys on the outside of the opponent’s area. This lets you set up back and forth passes to confuse the other team and hit ‘em from behind. Once all the players in the main playing field rund out of health, it’s game over. This game is GREAT when played with a friend.
You can download a free trial here by clicking the link that says River City Dodgeball All-Stars in English amidst a bunch of Japanese text.
You can also download a version for Xbox 360 from the Indie games section of the XBLA. The Xbox version is called Downtown Smash Dodgeball, but you won’t find it alphabetically listed under “D” because it’s in Japanese. Just go to the “Sports” category and it should be at the bottom for 800MSP.
Fun Fact: The classic brawler game River City Ransom was released under the name Downtown Nekketsu Monogatari in Japan. River City Dodgeball All-Stars… Downtown Smash Dodgeball… I wonder….
There’s no denying that artsy indie games are the rage these days, but I kinda’ thought I’d be sick of ‘em by now. I’m not.
And Yet It Moves is an upcoming WiiWare title based on the game for PC and Mac from the Austrian game studio Broken Rules. The game is essentially your standard 2D platformer with one main difference: at any given point, you can rotate the level by 90 degree intervals, turning walls into floors, floors into ceilings, and so on. Instead of using pixels or polygons, the game’s environment is made up of ripped bits of paper, giving it an artsy collage sort of feel.
It’s obvious that Japanese indie developer Frontier Aja was inspired by Castlevania when they made their upcoming PC game Koumajou Densetsu: Scarlet Symphony, but check out the boss battle at the end of the video and you’ll instantly be reminded of classic bullet hell shmups like Triggerheart Excelica and Castle Shikigami and DeathSmiles.
I like the technical little stuff, like how your character’s area for damage detection shrinks when you’re in flight mode, allowing you to graze bullets which is a typical mechanic of the shmup genre. It’s like someone created the ultimate game of my dreams!
The pantsu/oppai-fest above is Vanguard Princes, a sexy 2D fighter made by rumored ex-Capcom employee Tomoaki Sugeno. You can download the game for free here, but you’ll need a copy of Windows 98/Me/2000/XP Japanese Edition, at least a Pentium III 400MHz chip, 128MB of memory, 400MB of hard drive space, and DirectX.
Why have I been wasting my time with BlazBlue when I could be playing this!? Oh yeah, because I have a Mac. FML.
