So, I was browsing the internets today in search of something fresh to feature for Daily Graffiti when I stumbled onto an awesome world that I’d never heard of before: the world of Lego graffiti. There’s a Flickr group called Urban Culture and Lego and it’s filled with pictures of truly amazing Lego art paying homage to one of the 4 pillars of hip hop. Spotted this fresh Lego Grim Reaper graffit by Drop over on Flickr. Love the splattery effect towards the bottom. Here’s a full pic. I highly recommend you check the hi-res version here.
These Lego-ized versions of characters from Hayao Miyazaki’s classic My Neighbor Totoro are part of Iain Heath’s (aka Ochre Jelly) entry to BrikCon 2010 which takes place from September 30th – October 3rd of this year in Seattle, WA. The theme of this year’s BrikCon is “Big in Japan” and different Lego artists will be showing off their unique pieces that celebrate Japanese culture. Ochre Jelly’s theme is “Miyazakitopia” and will pay homage to the great Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki. You can check out a concept sketch of Miyazakitopia here. Can’t wait to see the whole thing when it’s completed! [Via Super Punch]
Early last month I posted about the Lego Blindboxed series due out later this year. More details have surfaced stating that the series will consist of 16 figures which will be blindboxed and sold separately for a rumored $2. Um, hey Kidrobot, three words: two. fucking. dollars. I hope you’re taking notes. The first series of Lego blindboxed figures is set to drop this June. Now feast your eyes on the sexy display case.

Ulises Farinas is a brilliant cartoonist/illustrator living in Brooklyn, NY and his Lego drawings featuring characters from Marvel Comics, Star Trek, and DC’s crossover event Blackest Night are freaking fantastic.
Also check out Motro, a comic that Farinas draws for the ACT-I-VATE webcomix collective.
I’ve already seen a Lego version of an NES console, but that thing was tiny. This Lego NES cartridge by Flynn2000 is a real-deal-Holyfield, life-size replica. Here’s a comparison: Now somebody just needs to make a life-size Lego NES for this thing to nestle in.
Looks like Lego is taking a cue from designer toys (which took their cue from Japanese gashapon figures) and will be releasing a series of blindboxed minifigs next summer. The series has some fresh looking characters like a sexy cheerleader (#2), dastardly gentleman (#8), and luchadore (#15), but HOLY FUCKING SHIT THERE’S A LEGO NINJA AND A LEGO ZOMBIE!!!!!!!!! Kinda’ bummed at the absence of any sort of pirate in this series, but it’s still fucking awesome. [Via Geek Orthodox] |
