Good Smile Co. just dropped word on the Figma Blog that they’ll be releasing a Figma version of Rider from the manga/anime series Fate/Stay Night. This is easily one of the coolest Figmas yet as far as how technical it is. First off, this is the first Figma to be released with a double-jointed neck. This one done so that collectors can display Rider in her crouched attack pose, which you’ll see after the jump. Another issue Good Smile had to overcome was the hair. Characters with a lot of hair have always been somewhat difficult to pose, but Rider has jointed hair made out of a soft, flexible material that allows for some really cool poses. Pre-orders for Rider go up on February 16th and she will be released this May. Otacute.com usually puts pre-orders like this up around 10pm EST, so I’ll definitely be camping on the site for this one. Continue reading “Pre-orders for Rider Figma Open 2/16″ →
Highschool of the Dead is about a bunch of kids and a school nurse who try to survive the zombie apocalypse together. There’s lots of gore and scantily clad anime babes making it the anime I’d most want to be trapped in. It hasn’t been published in the states yet, but you can easily find some scanlations on that big giant thing called the internet. [Via ANN] ![]() Image © VIZ Media The new “M” rated sci-fi action manga BIOMEGA drops February 2nd. BIOMEGA is an apocalyptic zombie epic from VIZ Media about man and machine up against a horde of zombies. Read on for the full official press release. Kaaanedaaa!!! Can you believe that the classic anime Akira is over 20 years old!? Produced by Sideshow Toy, this Die-Cast replica of Kaneda’s bike from Katsuhiro Otomo’s groundbreaking manga and anime feature is just over 6 inches tall and nearly 20 freaking inches long!
When it comes to awesomenss of this magnitude, shelf space will be the least of your worries when you hear about the insane $420 price tag. You can currently pre-order it from BigBadToyStore.com for $375 and you can expect it to ship some time in January of 2010. You might wanna’ start saving your monies, like, six months ago…
Someone should invent light-trailing technology just for this thing. [Via Fanboy]
The latest DLC for the Xbox 360 version of Grand Theft Auto IV includes some new stuff to watch on the in-game TV, including the anime parody Princess Robot Bubblegum. It features all the cliches you’d expect from an anime parody. There’s the scantily-clad heroine, pervy old guy, obligatory cute creature, and LOTS of tentacles. There you have it. You officially never really have to watch a single anime after this because this pretty much sums up the entire genre. [Via Sankaku Complex]
This Yuzuko Hayakawa PVC figure from Good Smile Company is the first PVC figure that’s blown my mind in a while. I’ve always been a fan of figures that display a good amount of motion and this piece does it in spades. I’m especially loving the swirly chain. Since I’m not all that familiar with the character, here’s the official press statement:
You can currently pre-order Yuzuko over at Play-Asia, but hurry because supplies are limited. [Via GSC]
*UPDATE* Kirsten Dunst — an actress that I rarely ever find attractive — looks way sexy in this cosplay getup. Maybe it’s just my severe weakness to thigh-high stockings. [Via The Frisky] Kirsten Dunst Cosplay

Both the spellings moe and moé are used in English.[2] Some writers add an accent mark in an attempt to indicate that the word should be pronounced as two morae, “mo” and “e”, but this usage does not conform to any standard of romantization. Compare bokeh (other non-standard romanization). Since I come across lots of moe-ish things on the internet, I might as well share some of them with you in a new weekly feature. To kick things off, I figured I’d start with one of the most famous female characters in all of geekdom, Princess Peach! If anybody knows the source for the above image, please tell me!!! I accidentally deleted it from my computer, but luckily I had it set as my desktop background, so I managed to take a screengrab. Kouji Taguchi, the head of Square Enix’s manga division, was recently asked why manga sales in America pretty much suck when compared to sales in Japan. He replied by saying: “The best sellers in the US were Full Metal Alchemist and Naruto, but these only sold a tenth to a twentieth of what they sold in Japan. I think the main reasons are as follows: 1. Fewer copies are printed and those that are get sold at a much higher price, from $8.99 to $12.99. 2. Children don’t get as much money, their allowances are just smaller. 3. The other reason is location. If you live in Tokyo there will be 3 bookshops nearby, which you can easily cycle to. In the US there aren’t any, they can only buy on a weekly trip to the mall. Even if anime is highly popular, they just don’t visit the stores to buy manga often.” It’s interesting that piracy wasn’t brought up. Think about it, some manga series take up to a year to make their way over to the states. Instead of waiting for U.S. licensing deals and distribution, most hardcore otaku are just reading scanlations on sites like OneManga.com where english translations are uploaded within 24 hours after a chapter is released in Japan. Why wait and pay when you can have it now for free? [Via Sankaku Complex]
I’d always been a fan of anime, mainly in movie form, but in the early years of my otakudom, Trigun was one of the first series that I really started following passionately. The series wrapped up in 1998, so it’s odd that they’d only make a feature length anime, more than 10 years later, but whatever! The new Trigun movie is set to be released in the Spring of 2010. Anyone else pumped like a Reebok for this? [Via Sankaku Complex]
Gantz (one of the most disturbingly awesome anime series I’ve ever seen) will be made into a 2-part, live action movie! The film adaptation will feature Kazunari Ninomiya (Tekkonkinkreet, Letters from Iwo Jima), Shinsuke Sato (The Princess Blade, Oblivion Island: Haruka and the Magic Mirror), and Ken’ichi Matsuyama (Death Note, Detroit Metal City) and the films are set to release in the spring and winter of 2011. If you’ve never read the manga or watched the anime, Gantz is about these people who die and wake up in a room. In the center of the room is a giant black ball that sends them on missions. Each mission is pretty much a sick game where they’re forced to murder monsters and weird aliens, and an innocent little onion child. There’s typically some extreme consequences for not participating in a mission, which makes shit even crazier.
When Gantz isn’t being crazy-violent, it’s being crazy-sexual. There’s plenty of nudity, extreme sexual harassment, and big ol’ bouncin’ boobies.
I actually picked up Gantz on a complete whim at Best Buy. I had no idea what it was about. I just thought the case looked cool.
Here’s the packaging for the discs. It’s cool because there’s magnets inside the cardboard that keep the whole thing closed after you fold it up. Then you can just stick inside the big Gantz ball.
Here’s the back of the Gantz ball. It says “100 Pts. Perfect Score,” which is a reference to the points earned by the dead people playing the Gantz game. After each mission, they can use their points to get upgraded weapons and even wish dead players back to life. I’m telling you, this shit is crazy!!! Here’s a peek at the anime: The anime’s cool, but gets kinda’ weak towards the end. This is because the manga (which is still ongoing) was on hiatus or something, so the studio just had to do the best they could. I highly recommend checking out the manga. Shit will blow your mind. The official site for the movie just launched, but it’s all in Japanese. Here’s a link for those of you who might wanna’ keep an eye on it for more news and whatnot. [Via Anime News Network]
Viz Media just acquired the U.S. master license for the gothic romance series Vampire Knight. This means that they own all TV, home video, streaming, and merchandising rights. Hopefully this means that the anime will finally make its way stateside. They’re already on season 2 in Japan! Vampire Knight is a shojo series by Matsuri Hino. It’s about the students of Cross Academy, a school with both day and night students. The daytime students are just regular kids, but on their way home from school every day, they cross paths with the nighttime students who are actually vampires. It’s kind of like Twilight, only not lame. It’s also been at the NY Times Best Selling Manga List for like ever. Yes, I’m a sucker for shojo. Don’t judge me.
Ryomou Shimei from the Battle Vixens manga and Ikki Tousen anime is my absolute favorite anime/manga character of all time. Shunya Yamashita is my favorite drawer-of-sexy-anime-ladies of all time. The fact that he’s designed this amazing Ryomou Shimei figure means that I’ll probably have to rob a bank some time soon because there’s no way that I’m letting my shelf go without this amazing piece. This piece from Daiki Kougyo drops in January 2010 and will retail for 15, 540 yen aka about $173. Yikes. Click through for a gallery of full detailed shots including some NSFW cameltoe and butt cheeks. Continue reading “Shunya Yamashita’s Ryomou Shimei Figure is GORGEOUS!!!” → |
