Markie Darkie is a Canadian graphic designer/photographer/visual artist who has made some of the most mind-blowing custom vinyls you’ve ever seen. His use of sculpting, abstract imagery, and colors are sure to inspire veteran toy artists and n00bs alike.
This Bruce Lee inspired Spiki Lee custom Munny by Tony Nakanari will be available on the Mai Hiro Online Shop this Friday, January 29th. This guy needs his own Dunny Series.
MeSmithy dropped a line to let us know about her Red Cross custom Mini Munny which is currently up for auction on Ebay. The proceeds will go towards the Red Cross to help the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti.
About the piece, she says:
I started working on this mini munny the day before the earthquake. After hearing about the devastation in Port Au Prince I decided to make this piece a fund raiser for the American Red Cross. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Red Cross. While I am sure many of you have already helped the cause, please consider giving a little more and getting a one of a kind stitched leather mini munny as a thank you. Lets send the people of Haiti as much help as we can!
This is a great chance to own an awesome piece of art and help some people out at the same time. You can find the auction here.
Sometimes having your own blog rules. You get to check out E-mail inbox each day and you can usually expect some sort of awesome surprise, like these awesome custom Munnys by Thunderpanda. The artist tells me that they’re names are Igor, gore, and Gory. These were made for a Halloween Munny show in Jakarta, Indonesia.
First off, these are freaking awesome. Secondly, I didn’t even know Munnys were a thing in Indonesia. I also don’t even know where Indonesia is, but I thoroughly enjoy the way it rolls off the tongue. IN-DO-NEEZ-EE-YA.
I’d also like to say that out of all the aliases that I’ve heard in the art world, Thunderpanda is by far the most badass.
On November 19th, MUNNYWORLD will explode as Kidrobot releases four new members of the Munny Family: Bub, Trikky, Rooz, and Raffy. Just like the Mini Munny, these 4″ DIY vinyl figures will retail for around $10 and come with a surprise accessory, stickers, and marker.
I’m all for new things and giving the consumer more options, but it seems like Kidrobot has turned their back on the established 18-35 artsy/hipster demographic that made them famous in the first place. I mean, “Rooz” and “Raffy,” seriously!? Sounds like the names of something Fisher Price would put out for pre-schoolers. They kinda’ look like toys that Fisher Pric would put out, too.
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix. As far as I’m concerned, I’ll stick with the O.G. Munny, thank you very much.
Don Schwabs sent in some pics of his custom Munny, which he cleverly named Munnwell, based on Maxwell from Scribblenauts!
Don writes:
“Although it’s about my fifth custom started, it’s actually the first one I have fully completed. I’d hoped to get it finished by launch (technically I have since it doesn’t come out in Aus till the 30th of Sep ) but ended up reworking a few things. Anyway, enjoy. Can’t wait to play the game and get my rooster hat ”
Excellent custom, Don! Now I’m wondering what a blank Munny would look like in Scribblenauts style..
You can check out more pics and some WIP shots over on his Flickr page.
You can also send me pics of your own customs, love letters, n00dz, hate mail, and any other shenanigans at brownkidd@albotas.com and I’lltry my best to post it on the site, just as long as I’m not too busy trying to come up with weird words to write in Scribblenauts.
Matthew “Servotron” Ellison made posted his Shadow of the ColossusMunny on the Sprite Stitch forums and everyone hated it so much that he actually got banned from ever posting his artwork on the internet again for the rest of his life.
Just kidding. This thing is frikkin’ awesome. Anyone who hates it was obviously raped by a Colossus as a child. There’s even a little Wander, ready to poke the giant beast in his infant-like soft spot.
Since I love both Shadow of the Colossus and Munnys, there’s a pretty good chance I’ll be thinking of this thing when I bone my girlfriend. It’ll heighten the pleasure, which isn’t really necessary since my lady gives me boners just by doing things like sneezing and watching TV, but still, I’ll be thinking of it nonetheless.
The platinum lining in Huck Gee’s pockets must be deteriorating because he’ll be releasing his new custom LiontaurMunny onto the vinyl collecting masses for a whopping $850 per figure. Huck only made 10 of these, so he’s pretty much guaranteed to make $8,500 in about 12 seconds, which is usually about how long it takes for his customs to get snatched up.
I actually hired a ninja on Craigslist to infiltrate Huck’s private castle and my spy returned with this picture of the artist’s toilet paper:
And that’s just the guest bathroom. The other 28 bathrooms use double-ply $100 bills.
Hit the jump to see a gallery full of more shots of this awesome, and awesomely expensive, custom.
Josh Pearce was commissioned to customize a blank 20″ Mega Munny figure into the likeness of everyone’s favorite time-traveling mutant, Cable. The detail on this thing is amazing. I’m loving the subtle details on the arm, hair, and the scar on his face. Even the belt and pockets are off the hook!
In case you haven’t heard, I also run this other little blog called blindboxed. It’s all about the world of urban designer toys and you should really check it out.
It was a weird week for me as it was my first time updating the site consistently since rsin and InfamousAdam left the site. They were two friends helping out with blogging duties, but their personal lives got kinda’ busy, so I’m holding down the fort by my lonesome for a while.
Here’s what’s been going on at blindboxed.com this week:
I managed to get some pics of a custom SkeletorDIY Pusher that I made a while back (above) and it’s currently for sale if anyone’s interested.
If customized toys aren’t your thing, how about customized gadgets? Reactor88 customized these gorgeous Vimobot USB drives for this year’s San Diego Comic Con.
This week we review the DIY Pusher figure from Thomas Han andMunky King, give some toy customizing tips, and talk about the upcoming Into The Darkness custom toy show being put together by the always awesome drilone. For this week’s episode of blindboxed tv we hit up Metropolis in Lancaster, PA for the Munny Mobile party sponsored by Kidrobot where we saw some awesome custom work by Esro, Kia, and our very own RSIN. We also spill our thoughts on the Kathie Olivas Dolbee that we’re giving away. Oh, and don’t mind the fact that the show ends abruptly… we totally forgot to fade out at the end, but we don’t think anyone will mind… will you?
Stay tuned for next week’s show as we review the DIY Pusher from Munky King and give some toy customizing tips!
