Review: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (Single Player)

There’s always been this ongoing argument in the video game reviewing world about scoring systems, particularly those on a 10/10 scale. The argument is that a score of 10 — the absolute highest score — would mean that a game is flawless — perfect in every way. In the history of video games, no game has ever been completely flawless. Until now.

At the risk of sounding like hype, I can honestly say that Uncharted 2 is a crowning achievement in gaming and a great testament to what the medium can really do. When we talk about games being interactive movies, this is it. And it’s not hours of cutscenes or a series of quick time events. This is you playing out amazing action sequences fit for a big budget Hollywood blockbuster. Uncharted 2 is the perfect, seamless integration of gameplay and story.

With a cast of colorful, believable characters that evolve as the story progresses, a story that twists and turns until the very end, and the absolute greatest action sequences in any game to date, Uncharted 2 is one of the most immersive gaming experiences you’ll get this year.

I’m not really the sort of person who would ever refer to a game as “the best ever” and I definitely don’t like hearing other people say, but I can honestly say that uncharted 2 is the most well-made game that I’ve ever played. Every single camera frame, every puzzle, every action sequence, every shoot out, every platforming part — they’re all amazing on their own, but when you mix all these elements together with a great story, great characters, gorgeous locations, and some of the best visuals of this generation, it’s trulya testament to what games can accomplish.

Oh, and there’s also a multiplayer mode.

It’s exciting to think about what game will eventually come out and top this. If you’re a PS3 owner, don’t deny yourself one of the greatest gaming experiences you’re likely to have all year. Buy Uncharted 2 now!

Is this the new PS3 Slim?

Kotaku posted these pictures of the new PS3 Slim that originally showed up on Chinese message boards. The pics appear to be taken from inside a factory, but Sony has issued a denial, telling CVG “We currently don’t have any plans for a redesigned PS3.”

That’s PR speak for “We don’t have any plans at this particular second, but we might think about closer to E3 time.”

Check out the rest of the pics over at Kotaku.
