Sick Video Game Inspired Skateboard Designs for the I’M BOARD Skateboard Art Show

Logan Zawacki (the same dude who wrote The Excavation of Mushroom Island) sent in pics of these 4 skateboard decks that he designed for the upcoming I’M BOARD skateboard art exhibit in Jacksonville, FL being held this weekend. The games represented are Mega Man, Super Mario Bros., Street Fighter II, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

It looks like he took models from the Tony Hawk games and rendered them with the appropriate attire to fit their themes. Awesome work, indeed.

The Hundreds x Stan Sakai – Limited Edition Usagi Yojimbo 25th Anniversary Tees

This week The Hundreds will be releasing two fresh new limited edition T-shirts at their flagship stores in SF and LA. They’ve joined forces with the iconic comic book master Stan Sakai, best known for his comic book series Usagi Yojimbo, which is currently published by Dark Horse Comics.

Each tee features none other than the one and only Miyamoto Usagi, a ronin samurai rabbit loosely based on Miyamoto Musashi – the famous Japanese swordsman. You may also remember Usagi from a little cartoon back in the day called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Stan Sakai himself will be making an appearance at The Hundreds store in LA on Saturday, November 21st from 11 am to 12pm to sign the latest issue of his monthly series. And to top it all off, the first 25 people to show will also score a signed copy of Yokai, the first full-color Usagi Yojimbo comic.

“I am always excited to hear stories of the impact of Usagi on other creative individuals, especially those working outside of comics” said Usagi Yojimbo creator, Stan Sakai. “I hope that this collaboration exposes a whole new group of people to Usagi, and comics in general. I’m grateful to have had the chance to work on this project with Bobby and everyone at The Hundreds.”

“Much of what I do today, as creative director for the Hundreds, stems from poring over Stan Sakai’s Usagi Yojimbo art as a youth,” said The Hundreds co-founder Bobby Kim. “To this day, it was one of the most influential comic books in my life, and so it was an honor to work with Stan on two exclusive pieces of art for The Hundreds. To any fan of The Hundreds, it is important to acknowledge and appreciate Usagi Yojimbo’s inspiration to the brand.”

8-Bit Hip-Hop Video Features Mega Man, Mario, Pac-Man, Kirby, and More!

This video for the song “Follow Me” by Pato Pooh featuring Adam Tensta is just brilliant. It mixes classic 8-Bit gaming sprites with some 2009 glossy design aesthetic. The song also has a chiptune vibe to it that’s actually pretty awesome.

Seriously, you need to watch this.

Resevoir Dogs/Ninja Turtles Mash-up Trailer

Someone on the internets came up with the amazing idea of combining footage from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie and audio from the trailer for Quentin Tarantino’s Resevoir Dogs. The results are nothing short of epic.

Not really sure how old this is, but I just saw it for the first time last night on AOTS and thought it was freaking brilliant.

New Live-Action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Reboot in 2011

turtlescover-383x600

Today’s the 25th anniversary of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and there’s news that everyone’s favorite heroes in a halfshell are getting a reboot in 2011.

From /Film:

Legendary Pictures will be producing the film, and co-creator Peter Laird is on board as executive producer. Laird says that the new movie “will remain true to the spirit of the original comic books. ” Laird mentions that the new movie might also use a new face replacement technology, which would allow the turtles to be much more expressive.

I may have been in the minority, but I actually liked the recent CGI TMNT, mainly because it had the original voices of the Turtles. Hopefully the original voice actors make a return for the new reboot.
