Finding Nemo 2? Nah, Finding Dory

Disney posted a teaser image on their Facebook page with the words “Finding Dory,” on it, proving that the Finding Nemo sequel won’t be called Finding Nemo 2 (unless this is a spinoff, but I doubt it). Not much is known about Finding Dory as of yet, but we do know that Pixar is attached to the project and that the film is aiming for a 2015 release. As for Dory, it’s not yet confirmed if Ellen DeGeneres is reprising her role as the regal fish, but I think it’s a highly likely case. For now, “like,” the Finding Dory page on Facebook for Disney’s sake.

INSA’s GIF-iti Project Hits Sydney
UK artist and designer INSA was invited by The Project and Ironlak to animate a mural on the outside wall of their studio. This isn’t PhotoShop trickery, the artist actually painted the wall over and over again, taking pictures in between, to create the rad animated GIF that you see above. Crazy.

Maggie Simpson in “The Longest Daycare”

Fox posted their Academy Award-nominated animated short, The Longest Daycare, starring Maggie Simpson, up on their YouTube channel today. For those unfamiliar with the short, this played directly before screenings of Ice Age: Continental Drift last year, which hopefully is the reason why many of you have not yet seen it. And if you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend pressing play on the video right now and watching one of the most touching animated shorts I’ve seen (outside of Pixar’s work) in a long time.

An Obsessed Mech: “Mechanical Creep” Short Film
There is no surprise that I have a love for Mech-inspired media. I love Gundam, I can’t wait for Eva 3.0 and Pacific Rim, and I’m even planning a short film involving a robot.
Darren Wallace manages to achieve a sweet tone while still creating a compelling and believable mech design. The project also involved the skilled artists Matt Parsons and Rebecca Knight.

I absolutely love this short. It is a beautiful piece that remains engaging and leaves you with a smile. The piece was created using Autodesk Maya, Zbrush, Nuke, Vray, and After Effects.

¡Ay Caramba! Screen-used Simpsons Cels @ Entertainment Earth
One thing I’ve always wanted but have never actually bought is a screen-used animation cel from Evangelion. If you’re as obsessed with The Simpsons as I am with Eva, check out the new batch of cels being sold by Entertainment Earth. They’re going for $500-ish, give or take.

The History Of Lego - An Animated Short

Ever wonder how LEGO was invented or got its name? Check out this Pixar-y animate short to see how an out-of-work carpenter persevered throughout the years, and howa humble workshop evolved into a Goliath of a toy company with its own airport and theme park.

Daicon Opening Animations: A Love Letter to Japanese Pop Culture

Commentor Aaron M. Fitzwater alerted us to the awesomeness of the DAICON Opening Animations. These were amateur projects created by the people who would go on to form Gainax (Eva, FLCL, Gunbuster). The first one (1981) is a bit rough around the edges but the second one (1983) looks anything but amateur. As brownkidd himself said, “If Albotas could be summed up in one YouTube clip, it would be the DAICON IV opening.”

A Little Bit On The Scott Pilgrim Wedding Game Side: Konami employee Simon and his friends tweaked the Scott Pilgrim video game and he surprised his bride (who also happens to work for Konami) and everyone at the reception with this awesome video full of ninjas, zombies, cosplay, and Raging Demons.

A Little Bit On The Rise of the Guardians Side: Santa, the Easter Bunny, the Sandman, the Tooth Fairy, and Jack Frost protect the world from evil in the latest film from Dreamworks. Jack Frost is mentioned in the press release, but absent from the trailer. Kinda’ curious to see what his deal is. Also, Santa has a nice pair of tats.

A Little Bit On The Lego Graffiti Side: This sick little stop motion video of a LEGO man getting up on a train was made for a school project by Elvisistnochamleben. The photo snaps at the end are a nice subtle touch.
