CHUNGKING MANSIONS

This place reminds me of the building that the movie Dredd takes place in, minus all the futuristic bits and slow motion drugs.

Chungking Mansions is a building located at 36-44 Nathan Road in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong. The building is well known as nearly the cheapest accommodation in Hong Kong with a single bed of US $8 one night. Though the building is supposedly residential, it is made up of many independent low-budget hotels, shops, and other services. The strange atmosphere of this building is sometimes called by some “the scent of Kowloon’s Walled City”.

Bucketlisted.

China Names Nic Cage as Greatest Actor in the World
I mean, kinda. Nicholas Cage was named Best Global Actor in Motion Pictures at China’s Huading Awards Monday night, which could easily translate to China not really knowing what great actors are, or China just fully comprehends the acting talent Nicholas Cage represents and deemed him the best out of the entire world. Nicole Kidman was also honored, as best Global Film Actress. AndAvril Lavigne also won Best Global Singer. I guess the Huading Awards seem pretty legit.

China Is Super Serious About Their Booth Babes

In fact, they’re so serious that most Chinese gaming sites have booth babe directories where you can search by shoe size, bra size, and even weight.

Shoutout to Lucas for sending this in!

It’s Real: A Mural of 85,794 Rubik’s Cubes

In Macau, China, there sits a 13-foot tall, 200-foot long mural made up of 85,794 Rubik’s Cubes. Seriously.

The project was created by Toronto-based Cube Works Studio, known for contorting Rubik’s Cubes into art. The mural hit the 2013 Guiness Book of World Records for the world’s largest Rubik’s Cube Mosaic. Fucking incredible to say the absolute least about the project.

Tallest Robot Lantern in the World Exists
This isn’t a Gundam or a real/fake robot. It’s just a lantern. Just a sweet ass 12 meter tall, 2.5 light up massive robot lantern. It’s the tallest robot lantern in existence, and it’s being stood up in Shuzhou, China. And it’s pretty damn cool.

Real Life Arcade Fire

And you probably thought an Arcade Fire was just an indie band that pissed people off for winning a Grammy that one time. It turns out, this is what happens when cops in China confiscate gambling machines. These pics above were taken in China’s Shunqing District of Nanchong City where police set roughly 1,000 machines ablaze. I’m thinking they probably should’ve just eBay’d them shits.

A Little Bit On The Violent Chinese Cinema Side: China’s highest grossing film, Let The Bullets Fly, hits select U.S. theaters and On Demand starting March 2nd. It sort of reminds me of Kung Fu Hustle, only replace martial arts with pumping fools full of lead and add a dash of Chow Yun-fat.

A Little Bit On The Furniture Side: Skateboarding meets Chinese furniture with the Mingskatable by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac and LAQ Executive. This maple wood coffee table is covered in seven layers of black and sandalwood lacquer and makes that trendy IKEA piece you just bought look like complete booty.
