Finally! A Shuma-Gorath Heroclix Figure

For those of us who are seeking to play a tabletop version of Marvel Vs Capcom, the roster just got a bit bigger. After years of being absent from the tabletop game, the Great Old One has entered the game.

Not only is he a really detailed, awesome sculpt, but he is ridiculously powerful (check out his stats below.) Plus, he has a movable eye. I would have a blast setting that eye on my next target.

The downside? He is convention exclusive. This isn’t the first time that I’ve been shafted by the best characters only being available at conventions. I don’t think there is any figure I want more than the Capt. America Punisher.

However, due to overwhelming demand for the figure, Wizkids is putting a few of them up on their eBay store for people to buy at 50 bucks. Not bad for the Unclosing Eye.

Hello Kitty Heroclix Inbound?

A new press release announced a collaboration between Sanrio and NECA which will bring about a new Hello Kitty collection targeted at hardcore collectors.

The most curious section noted that a special Hello Kitty set of the popular (and awesome) Wizkids’ Heroclix is going to be revealed with the set at the New York Comic-Con.

Heroclix is an great tabletop game that mirrors the gameplay of something like Final Fantasy tactics using miniatures from Marvel and DC superheroes. However, with the latest expansions to Heroclix including IPs such as Assassin’s Creed, Street Fighter and Bioshock, it is no surprise that other recognizable properties are getting Heroclix releases. However, Hello Kitty is a bit surprising.

Can’t wait to see what this brings to the game. Heroclix is a fantastic hobby and I love seeing it grow. If you are a fan of strategy games and comics, you should be playing this game.

Daily Graffiti: Spawn & Batman

Did anybody ever read the Spawn/Batman crossover by Frank Miller and Todd McFarlane back in ‘94? It’s about them trying to find a dude who decapitates homeless people and uses their heads for robots. Crazy stuff. I dug it as a kid, but it definitely doesn’t hold up to a grown-up mind. Kind of worth checking out anyway, though. Just for the weirdness.

Buy: Batman/Spawn One-Shot

R.I.P. Joe Kubert

One of the most influential comic book illustrators of all time passed away yesterday at the age of 85. While he’s famous for his work on DC characters like Hawkman, his greatest contribution to the comic book world came when he founded The Kubert School, the first and only accredited school devoted entirely to the art of cartooning. His sons Adam and Andy are both successful comic artists who also instruct at the school that their father founded.

Shanghai Catwoman Is Badass

Here’s a clip from DC Nation’s Batman Shanghai three-part short series. It’s set in China in the 1930’s and Catwoman’s suit totally reminds me of a Maneki Neko.

Random Purchase of the Month (March 2012)

This month I randomly purchased a Millennium Edition Dreamcast controller. These limited edition pads were released in Japan during late 1999 and early 2000 (basically one year into the system’s life, at least in Japan) in a variety of colors. They came in windowed boxes to show off the transparent awesomeness of the pads.

I didn’t even think when I saw this hanging on a peg hook in the store. One second it was there and the next it was in my hand. They usually go for $40 to $60 but this one was $11. Deal.

I got it home and realized why it was $11. The thing was filthy. After completely dismantling the controller, giving its plastic parts a thorough bathing, and de-gunking the cord, it was back to good condition.

Black Canary, Wonder Woman, Zatanna, and Batgirl start up their own all-girl rock band à la The Runaways in this illustration by Cliff Chiang. He will be auctioning off the original black and white art at Heroes Con next weekend.
