It’s My Snake In A Box, Girl

Revoltech’s 25h Anniversary figure featuring Naked Snake aka Big Boss from Metal Gear Solid: Peacewalker is all sorts of banana biscuits. Sadly, it’s pretty much sold out everywhere, so you’ll have to pay stupid rude eBay prices if you want one.

Sexy Lady Snake Cosplay by Crystal Graziano

Obligatory joke about our snakes being totally solid or whatever. Pics by WHITEDARRYL.

Speaking of pretty girls in skimpy cosplay, did you hear that the ladies of 16 Bit Sirens are trying to raise awareness (Among other things i.e. weiners. Oh snap!) to how some cosplayers are mistreated at events?

Yes, it seems that just because a woman dresses like a whore for attention to celebrate their fandom, or whatever other reason, it doesn’t mean that she actually is a whore! Allow the great Dave Chappelle to elaborate.

Never forget.

But for real, guys, if you’re groping up on chicks at cons, you’re a super creep and should be ashamed of yourselves. There’s never a good time to not act like a proper gentleman.

What Metal Gear Rising Should Have Been
Don’t get me wrong. Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance is a great game. But at the same time, it’s a missed opportunity. “Rising” seems to allude to the rising action that crescendos in Guns of the Patriots. Konami and Platinum should have taken this and run with it.
As soon as I saw Raiden as a cyborg ninja, taking apart a Gecko with his katana and feet, I needed to know the backstory. How did Jack the Ripper become the next Frank Jaeger? What happened between the brainfuck of Sons of Liberty and his cyborgification? Explaining that was the plan for Rising. But that got scrapped in favor of a story that took place after Guns of the Patriots. So we’re left wondering how Jack got his lightning bolt action.
Backstory is what Rising should have been all about, to the point that it could have been its own side-series to Metal Gear Solid. Everybody wants to play as Cyborg Ninja, AKA Grey Fox, AKA Frank Jaeger. Playing through the events of Metal Gear Solid as Grey Fox, eventually coming face to face with Snake would be amazing and could even serve to flesh out the other members of the cast like Vulcan Raven and Sniper Wolf.
And while she didn’t have quite as dramatic a transformation as Raiden did, I want to know what Meryl was up to between Ski-Dooing off of Shadow Moses and her “What happened to your face” run-in with Snake years later. While Raiden’s and Grey Fox’s games would be Devil May Cry style action games, Meryl’s could stick to stealth or maybe try something completely new.
Konami certainly aren’t averse to whoring out the Metal Gear series. So maybe this stuff could happen. But then again, Kojima needs to walk away from the series soon.

Solid Snake Amigurumi Plush

You know, I’ve seen a lot of these plushies on Etsy before, but this one really takes the cake for being a stray from the norm. It’s pretty easy making a Mario plush or a more recognizable anime or Nintendo character, but Etsy store PixelBlock decided to go above and beyond that and create awesome Solid Snake Amigurumi plushes. Kudos to them because this 5 1/2 inch plush is really badass.

Metal Gear Rising Shirts From UNIQLO
Popular Japanese clothing retailer UNIQLO are launching a Metal Gear Rising line on February 18th to celebrate the release of the game. These shirts are awesome. I love gaming shirts that are really nicely done.
UNIQLO has previously done other really great Metal Gear Solid related clothing. However with their only US shop being in New York City and with many of their MGS shirts hard to find online, you may have a bit of trouble getting one. However, if the rumors are true, a UNIQLO store will soon be opening in Philly.

25th Anniversary Naked Snaked Figure

25 years of Metal Gear Solid and we get this super rad Naked Snake figurine from Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker by Japanese toy maker, Kaiyodo. The figure drops this April at ¥3,980, or $43, with pre-orders starting February 15. I’m really digging the colorless mockup and cardboard box combination.

Swarovski Studded Foxhound T-shirt & Metal Gear Rising Watch

Kojima tweeted pics of the Swarovski Foxhound shirt and Metal Gear Rising ‘Wired’ watch from Seiko designed by MGS series artist Yoji Shinkawa. While the Foxhound tee is a bit too bling-bling for my tastes, that watch is pretty boss.

Fact: Game designer Hideo Kojima is one classy-ass, well-dressed dude.

Case in point:

Metal Gear Movie, Social Game, And Open-World Game Announced

Awwww snap! At last night’s Metal Gear 25th Anniversary event in Japan. Here’s a quick rundown of the big announcements.

THE MOVIE: Columbia Pictures and Sony own the rights. Marvel Studio founder and CEO Avi Arad will be producing it. He also produced The Amazing Spider-Man, so take from that what you will.

THE SOCIAL GAME: Titled Metal Gear: Special Ops, the social mobile game will hit iOS and Android devices later this year. It’s being developed by GREE, who recently came under fire earlier this year for implementing GACHA services into their games. GACHA is this digital equivalent of a gashapon machine or blindboxed toys; players pay real money for random in-game items, but it became a problem when school children started racking up $2,000 bills trying to complete their in-game collections. GREE has since removed it from their games. Konami, Zynga, Namco Bandai, and Sega, along with many other Japanese developers have also used the GACHA system.

THE OPEN-WORLD GAME: Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zero takes stealth action into open-world environments letting you ride vehicles radio in for support if you get caught. Sounds freaking amazing Oh, and it runs on the new FOX Engine which is supposed to be pretty gnarly. Check out Kotaku for more info.

We don’t know about you dudes, but we’re fuckin’ psyched!

‘Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance’ Looks Like The Futuristic ‘Desperado’ Of Video Games
Hideo Kojima tweeted the above pic showing the official MGR:R web site which features a shiny new trailer along with an official release date of 2/21/23… in Japan. Womp womp.
Even though we still don’t have a U.S. release date, this is shaping up to look pretty redonkulous. Slicing dudes through walls, fighting against (and alongside) chainsaw-tailed panther robots, running atop a barrage of missiles toward a helicopter and proceeding to slice it into smithereens. I can’t NOT think of Robert Rodiguez-style action while watching this thing.
Check it out for yourself to see what I mean.

Yeah, I’m sold. What about you guys? You digging the new direction of the Metal Gear series, or does this just leave you pining for the stealth action days of yore?

OH SHIT! Hideo Kojima Confirms Metal Gear Solid 5!
Not like we didn’t see it coming, but holy shit!
From The Escapist:

“On the topic ofMetal Gear Solid 5, I can tell you two things,” Kojima told the French publisher IG Magazine. “There will be more infiltration, spying, and convincing people to do you ‘a favor’ than in the previousMGS. I loved the idea of the social interactions inDeus Ex: Human Revolutionthat we’ve seen. And if I say more about it, the ninja PR woman behind the door will chop me into pieces.”
Kojima also noted that the new game will not be directly connected to the upcomingMetal Gear Rising. “Metal Gear Rising: Revengeancenever pretended to beMetal Gear Solid,” Kojima said. “It’s not a game about our beloved Solid Snake. It’s a spin-off that tries something different. We haven’t seen the last of Solid Snake, despite the fact that I wanted to let him die at the end ofGuns of the Patriots.”
The addition of conversation trees would be a welcome addition to the series. Since the biggest criticism of MGS4 was its lengthy cutscenes, replacing them with social interactions players can control would go a long way towards restoring a sense of agency for the series. The concept is also a natural fit for a series dealing with stealth and infiltration, as Deus Ex: Human Revolution proved.

Kojima also says MGS5 will be running on the Fox Engine which itself just looks plain bananas. MGS games are insanely replayable as it is, so it’ll be cool to see how Kojima throws social interactions into the mix. Idunno about you guys, but I’d totally be down for Solid Snake’s final mission to have like 11 different endings.

AlbotasTV: So I Gave Hideo Kojima A Munny Over The Weekend.

Hideo Kojima is a legend. He’s created iconic gaming series such as Zone of the Enders, Boktai, and, most notably, Metal Gear. The godfather of stealth action was at Uniqlo in New York this weekend celebrating the Metal Gear 25th Anniversary by doing a fan signing along with Metal Gear character designer Yoji Shinkawa.

See it on the bottom left? I gave Kojima-san this Old Snake Munny I made about four years ago that was featured on Kotaku. That’s right, spreading vinyl love everywhere I go!

Peep the video up top and let us know what you think in the comments. We also have an album full of pics from the event on our Facebook page.

Did anyone else hit up either of the NYC signings this weekend?
