Amazing Papercraft and So Can You!

We’ve seen people do amazing things with paper, but this tops them all. These unbelievable pieces from artist Destro2k look like they were pulled straight from the games.

The best part? Destro2k even added tutorials on how to make these awesome pieces. But be warned, they are hard. I couldn’t even make a Companion Cube.

Check out all of the other awesome stuff he’s done, including a Gundam, Eva Unit and more.

I’m gonna go try to make that Arwing now…

Albotas Review - Service Games: The Rise and Fall of SEGA

I was expecting some light reading. But when my review copy of Service Games: The Rise and Fall of SEGA showed up on my doorstep, I found a text book. The nearly 400 page book details every step of Sega’s foray into the console industry, both in America and abroad. The amount of information in this book is staggering. And even though you know how Sega’s fate unfolds, you’re still rooting for them the entire time.

SEGA Heritage Collection Makes Old School New Again

SEGA’s Heritage Collection brings updated HD graphics to three classic Dreamcast Games: Jet Set Radio, Sonic Adventure 2, and Nights: Journey Into Dreams. Along with the HD facelift, each game will have bonus behind-the-scenes developer interviews which I’m personally more interested in.

The first game from the collection is Jet Set Radio which releases later this month, followed by Sonic Adventure 2 and Nights in October. All games will be available on both PSN and XBLA.

The Ultimate Videogame Ad

This Sonic 2 commercial is so great that I’m about to go to the store and buy a second copy of the game.

Echidnas Are Weird

I was watching a zoology show recently which featured weird creatures from Australia and New Guinea. One of those was the echidna, which you may know due to Knuckles from the Sonic series.

Echidnas are pretty weird. They, along with the platypus, are basically the evolutionary link between reptiles and mammals. They don’t regulate their body temperature well, they pee and poo at the same time and from the same hole, and females lay eggs instead of gestating internally. The male’s reproductive system is where it gets really weird, though. So weird that I had to put the picture after the break.

Hit the link for the lowdown on the echidna’s disturbing and elaborate penis.

[NSFW, especially if you work with echidnas!]

"The History of Sonic the Hedgehog" up for Pre-order
After 20 years of history, it’s only fitting Mr. Needlemouse gets his own text-book-sized biography. The 300-page book was originally written in French but an English version will be released this Fall. It’s up for pre-order at Amazon, so if you’d like a glimpse into the making of Sonic, his games, and all of those spin-offs, you might want to throw down about $30.

MegaDrive-Themed Nintendo Handhelds Are Beautiful Blasphemy

A part of me dies every time I see Sonic on a Nintendo console. As Hank Hill might say, “That’s just not right. That’s like a pretty girl with short hair.” But I can’t deny the awesomeness of these customized Nintendo handhelds.

A Little Bit On The Fastest Hedgehog Ever Side: Realistic custom Sonic the Hedgehog figure by Kodykoala. Why hasn’t science bred blue hedgehogs yet. I mean, we have glow-in-the-dark cats, so why not?

A Little Bit on the Sonic 2 HD Side: I know I’m in the minority when I say Sonic 4 was pretty good. And a lot of people have taken the mentality that “If Sega can’t remake Sonic the right way, I will.” This gameplay preview of a fan-made remake of Sonic 2 is definitely impressive. Personally, I’m not usually a fan of vector graphics in games, though. But to keep budgets low and dev schedules short, pixely goodness must be cast aside. Sprites for life.

A Little Bit On The Sega Side: Sonic Chaos Emerald Energy Drink packaging concept design by Julie Aniela and Jack Hornblow. The gold ring around the top of each can is a clever touch.

A Little Bit On The Game Gear Side: Game Gear Games will be coming to the 3DS virtual console in Japan starting March 13. The first batch of titles consists of Dragon Crystal Shirani’s Maze, Shinobi, and Sonic & Tails 2 for ¥300 a pop.
I owned a Game Gear as a kid and loved the hell out of it. Can’t wait to start playing all those games again without needing six freaking AA batteries.
