There’s a misconception that there was a drought in the world of 2D fighting games. Street Fighter IV brought the genre back into the mainstream, and a bunch of games rode the coattails: Marvel vs. Capcom 3, BlazBlu, and more. But the King of Fighters series has always been there. Unfortunately, the series gets constantly overlooked, and this will be especially criminal in the case of KoF XIII, which is a particularly great game.
Creamy gameplay and controls, staggeringly huge and powerful combos, K’ and Mai are back, amazing true 2D graphics, SNK cameos
Delay at beginning of online matches, ‘98 Iori is on-disk paid DLC, filler story per the usual
A Little Bit On The “Do Whatever It Takes” Side: Not-so-fun Fact: each year in the U.S. and Canada over 2,000,000 kids wind up homeless. One out of eight kids are forced to leave their homes for whatever reason, and we’re of the sound opinion that this sucks.
To help raise money and awareness to combat youth homelessness, Virgin Mobile has launched DoWhateverItTakes.org where you can make an account and submit your own “whatever.” Your “whatever” is basically anything your friends/family/fans would really pay to see. You set a monetary goal, your peeps donate money towards that goal, and kabam! Youth homelessness: combatted.
Up top is YouTuber extraordinaire Wheezy Waiter pledging to build an igloo, stay in it overnight, and stream the whole grueling process over the internet. With only 12 days left, he’s already met over $7,000 of his $10,000 goal. Go support his shizz here.
Now, us being the awesome dudes that we are, we’d like to get in on this action and support a good cause. We’re always sharing links to cool games, toys, and other junk for you guys to buy, but there’s kids out there who don’t even have roofs over their heads. That’s whack, and we feel kind of like we should do something about it.
So…
What would you pay to see us do in the name of anti-youth-homelessness-ness? We could roam the streets giving away designer toys to strangers? I, your humble editor-at-large could shave a Tri-Force symbol into the back of my head? Play an entire season in a Madden NFL game (ugh!!!!)? Leave your suggestions in the comments section below.
As some of you may have noticed over the weekend, we change up the site layout. We’ve received several notices from you guys about problems with the previous theme’s loading issues, so we hope this new theme remedies the situation.
Along with the new look, we’re also changing up our posting style to deliver more bit-sized nuggets of awesome each day. Don’t worry, we’ll also be doing some lengthy editorial stuff as well which will be indicated by it’s bigness on the site’s front page - much like this very post.
We’re still having a problem with getting the Disqus comments to show up correctly, so if any web-savvy readers wanna’ help us out, we’re using the Stacky 5 theme and really have no clue how to properly tweak it. Email brownkidd@albotas.com if you feel like lending a hand.
Anywho, hope you all dig the site’s new layout and direction. We have some killer original content lined up for the future. In the meantime, stay tuned and stay awesome!
For the first time and history, two Albotas writers met in real life. Fittingly enough, Brownkidd and I (Marc) met for the first time under these giant Kidrobot x Swatch ads. If you told me five years ago that Dunnies would be plastered over Times Square I wouldn’t have believed you. Who wants to buy me the Kozik watch?
I wanted to have this up yesterday, but it took my computer exactly 756 minutes to render the complete video before I uploaded it to YouTube. Future videos will be way shorter since I got the general introduction out of the way.
This is basically a look into how I run the site, promote it, find news, etc. If anything, I’ll at least be able to look back on these videos and see how the site progresses.
Please leave comments, subscribe on YouTube, and leave video replies to be featured on a future episode!
In case you needed proof that we’re kind of a big deal, multi-fasquillion dollar corporate giant Virgin currently has our little blog listed as one of their Influencers of the Month on their Virgin Mobile Live Facebook page and we’re also one of their 25 Obsession Worthy Blogs! We finally made it, momma’! There’s also a brief interview with your fearless editor-at-large, yours truly. Check it out here.
