YaYa Crossing is a YouTube vlog about a girl trying to stay sane while waiting for Animal Crossing New Leaf. In a recent episode, is appears that she has officially snapped. She’s devised a a plan to obtain an advanced copy of the game by holding Shigeru Miyamoto for ransom. Sounds pretty foolproof.

Do you see this, Nintendo? This is what happens when you delay a launch title for two years!
It’s a degree or so chillier in hell today. Nintendo finally got their shit together and made tons of awesome announcements on this week’s Nintendo Direct.
First, that awesome looking Animal Crossing themed 3DS XL is coming to North America this summer. It will cost about $220 and will come with the new Animal Crossing game pre-installed.
Next - and this is the biggest shocker - Earthbound is coming out for Virtual Console. I never thought this would happen. Unfortunately, this will only be available to Wii U owners and won’t be on the Wii’s VC lineup, as far as I know.
A sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was also announced. The game looks like it plays like earlier top-down Zelda games as opposed to something like Phantom Hourglass, which is a good thing in my opinion.
The world of Mario is getting two new additions, too. A third Yoshi’s Island game is coming out. This one’s got some really weird art direction, but I’m excited to see how it turns out. The other game is a new entry into the Mario & Luigi RPG series where Mario has to enter Luigi’s dreams. How Freudian.
Last but not least, Nintendo and Square-Enix will be publishing Bravely Default next year in the US.
That’s a lot of great news for one day. It’s about time, though. When the Animal Crossing 3DS launches, I might just have to pick one up. I’m still jonsing for the mint flavored one though.

Animal Crossing: New Leaf is just 103 days away and I’ve been kind of obsessing over it. TheBitBlock did a handful of Animal Crossing Video Journals like the one above chronicling their adventures on an import copy of the game. From what I’ve gathered from this series, Japanese players really like anime, food, and bright-ass colors.
The last Animal Crossing that I thoroughly enjoyed was the O.G. GameCube version. Everything after that just felt like less of the same. The lack of NES games and townies going crazy/locking themselves inside igloos was sorely missed.
But New Leaf, on the other hand. So much stuff to do! Instead of just pimping out your house (which now includes even more pimpage) you can customize your whole town! I also like how Nintendo took a step back from the whole “give them everything to do at once” shtick a-la Wild World and instead focused on allowing you to slowly unlock new areas of the game. The whole carrot-on-a-string thing is what Animal Crossing is all about and it’s what keeps you looking forward to new and great things within the game!
As 1up.com Editor Jeremy Parish says in his Import Overview video, Nintendo sequels are often more about making small refinements and improvements. I think that’s why I like them so much. I’m a big detail-oriented person, so while the smallest changes like two types of fruit in a town as opposed to one (!!!) might cause others to react with “So what?,” they cause me to make irrational decisions like clearing off an entire week of work just so I can waste hours upon hours of my life on a 3DS game. Totally worth it.

About damn time. Originally announced as a launch title for the 3DS, Animal Crossing: New Leaf is finally headed to the States! I’ve been stoked about this game since before the 3DS dropped and my fiancée has been holding off on buying a 3DS just for this game alone.
Oh, and for those of you in Europe, you’ll have to wait until June 14, just a few days later than us yanks. Sorry.

Oh man, I like this version of the 3DS XL / LL more than the Pikachu one. It reminds me of confetti cake. Who would win in a fight? This model or the Slime 3DS?

Not sure how I feel about the title, but the game looks crazy fun. I can’t wait to waste away my days in my little virtual town and partying it up on the dancefloor to DJ K.K.’s crazy tunes.

And now the bad news: these are exclusive to Japan which means they’re totally region-locked. It’s a shame I can’t read a lick of Japanese because I’d totally rock that Animal Crossing piece like there was no tomorrow.

K.K. Slider, aka the greatest character in Nintendo’s Animal Crossing series, has a buttload of songs. On their own, they’re pretty sweet. But when mashed together, they could totally be used in a horror movie.

These Commercials Are The Reason I Started Playing Animal Crossing.
I’d seen mention of the game in various magazines, but never really paid much attention to it until these TV spots started airing. Everything was just too bizarre (“Nice outfit. Where’d you get it, a garbage dump?” “Uh, yeah!”) to ignore. And the idea of game that functioned even while you weren’t playing seemed crazy to me. I had to have it.
This was back in 2002. I’d just graduated high school, got kicked out of my parents’ house, and was living with some friends. None of us had jobs or any sort of responsibilities at the time, so after I got Animal Crossing, so did everyone else in the house. It was all we did for months.
In just a few weeks after we all started playing, the Animal Crossing virus had spread to our circle of friends outside the house. Soon enough, everyone was coming over with their memory cards to visit each others’ towns, steal fruit, and trade furniture. We even had an Animal Crossing News Year’s Eve party where we celebrated the in-game fireworks countdown twice in two different rooms because the GameCube’s internal clocks were a few seconds apart.
While I still like the new Animal Crossing games, I don’t think anything will ever compare to the experiences I had with the first one. Going on a tropical island getaway just by hooking my GBA to my GameCube, getting new items from eReader cards, having K.K. Slider sing to me in front of the train station, playing old NES games, fishing for hours to pay off my debt so I could beat all my friends in getting the golden statue of myself in my town, rushing home from my real-life job so that I could turn on my town’s lighthouse - these are all some of my fondest gaming memories ever and it makes me a bit sad to know none of the more recent Animal Crossing games have made me feel the same way.
Still… I can’t fucking wait for the 3DS version.

Daily Geekstomization: Tom Nook Mini Munny Custom by Monstafaktory.
This Tom Nook Mini Munny was made back in 2008 - way before Kidrobot launched their MUNNYWORLD line of assorted blank DIY vinyl figures with animalistic features - so pardon the ears. It’s still a great piece and the apron and tail are a nice extra touch.
Kidrobot sent me a Trikky figure a while back that I’ve been meaning to turn into Crazy Redd. Maybe I should get on that and stop being such a lazy bum.
