Nintendo Starts Doing It Right

It’s a degree or so chillier in hell today. Nintendo finally got their shit together and made tons of awesome announcements on this week’s Nintendo Direct.

First, that awesome looking Animal Crossing themed 3DS XL is coming to North America this summer. It will cost about $220 and will come with the new Animal Crossing game pre-installed.

Next - and this is the biggest shocker - Earthbound is coming out for Virtual Console. I never thought this would happen. Unfortunately, this will only be available to Wii U owners and won’t be on the Wii’s VC lineup, as far as I know.

A sequel to The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past was also announced. The game looks like it plays like earlier top-down Zelda games as opposed to something like Phantom Hourglass, which is a good thing in my opinion.

The world of Mario is getting two new additions, too. A third Yoshi’s Island game is coming out. This one’s got some really weird art direction, but I’m excited to see how it turns out. The other game is a new entry into the Mario & Luigi RPG series where Mario has to enter Luigi’s dreams. How Freudian.

Last but not least, Nintendo and Square-Enix will be publishing Bravely Default next year in the US.

That’s a lot of great news for one day. It’s about time, though. When the Animal Crossing 3DS launches, I might just have to pick one up. I’m still jonsing for the mint flavored one though.

If There Was Ever A Set Of Earthbound Vinyl Toys, This Is What They Should Look Like

Feast your eyeballs upon this slick custom MonQee of Ness from Earthbound by Albert Art. Back in 2009 he made a Munny version of Ness, but this Qee version turns the radical levels up to eleven.

When’s Mother 3 Coming Out?

Sometimes we put on our investigative journalism hats at Albotas. We went straight to the source to determine the release date of the elusive Mother 3, the GBA sequel to Earthbound.

Saved by the Bell: The Game

The Fine Brothers, Benny and Rafi Fine, re-skinned Earthbound and added some sweet chiptune music by Doctor Octoroc to create this Youtube-based choose your own adventure game.

Classic pixel art comes to life in the real world with the Pixel Life Canvas photography series by Kyle Robinson who is more widely known as the chiptune artist and retro console modder Thretris. The above pics featuring sprites from Mega Man and EarthBound are just the first two installments of the series and we can’t wait to see more!
While at first glance it may look like something we’d feature on our Daily Graffiti segment, we’re pretty sure there’s some Shoop magic going on and no actual graffiti involved. Still awesome, nonetheless!

That’s a Lot of Starmen

Flickr member and follow Pembroke Welsh Corgi owner, Meeellla, crafted these Earthbound mascots out of resin. I kind of want one. Or five.

If Arcade Fire Covered Music From Earthbound.

Here’s a video of YouTuber CoastCoastCoast giving Eathbound the multitrack indie rock treatment using guitars, hand claps, a trash can, and hauntingly melodic vocals. There’s also a cute puppy, so you really have no reason not to watch it.

Thanks to David for sending this in!

Custom EarthBound Converse Slip-ons by MukuroY. I want them. I doubt I’d wear them, but I still want them. I also like that the artist put their own spin on the characters rather than just copying the official art.

Snazzy Minimalist Pokémon and Mother Poster Designs.

Adam aka Colorlust whipped up these poster designs for the original Pokémon and Mother series in an attempt to teach himself how to use Adobe Illustrator. I think it’s safe to say his attempt went well. I’d totally buy these as prints.

Ness Munny doesn’t come with yo-yo accessory.
I’ll admit it. I’ve never played Earthbound. I just don’t want to pay over $100 for a SNES game. But either way, this custom Ness Munny is impressive. The backpack is a little weird though. It looks like he stole it from some doll.
