Design Friendwithyou’s Next Shirt
Friendswithyou’s online shop has beed down for a few months now, and they didn’t make it to the Designer Toy Awards, so it’s good to hear they’re still alive and kicking. Blank You Very Much and Friendswithyou are hosting a contest that lets fans create FWY’s next shirt. Just download the assets and template here and get designing. The deadline is November 5.

Cloudy: A FriendsWithYou Short
After working for over 12 hours straight, this is exactly what I needed. Friends with You have a lot more going on, too. This month they unveiled a new mascot, Yaya, for the Young At Art Museum and they kicked off their first-ever Hong Kong exhibit. Plus their web store is down. Hopefully that means new merch is coming soon.

A Little Bit on the FriendsWithYou Side: Tomorrow is the opening celebration of the Santa Barbara Contemporary Arts Forum Museum’s Flights from Wonder exhibit, where FriendsWithYou will be premiering The Rainbow Vertex. The Rainbow Vortex is a hypnotic interactive art installation where viewers are urged to “summon the Rainbow Vortex. If you, unlike us, live anywhere near Santa Barbara, check it out.
Albotas Goes to Rainbow City!
When I heard that FriendsWithYou were brining Rainbow City to Manhattan, I knew I had to go, despite the 225 mile gap between Boston and NYC. I traveled three and a half hours by bus to Albany, three and a half hours by car to NYC, and then three hours by train back home. But it was totally worth it.
If you’re a fan of FriendsWithYou and live anywhere near New York, you need to go see this for yourself. You rarely get to see little kids and full grown adults having just as much fun as each other doing the same thing, but at Rainbow City, kids and their parents alike were having a blast.
What was meant to be a quick recap video turned out to be a labor of love once I got started. I hope you enjoy the video (and remember to go full-screen for the full effect). Rainbow City is open until July 5, 2011.
Holy Crap: Huge FriendsWithYou Installation in NYC
FriendsWithYou and AOL (ugh) will be creating an outdoor art installment in a 1,600 square foot playground in Chelsea. Limited edition merch will become available randomly throughout each day. “Rainbow City,” as it’s being called, will be open from June 8 to July 5, 2011. Who’s brining the hallucinogenic materials?
Albotas PSA: Wishes Come True Mimobots for $9.99
Still haven’t picked up a blindbox Wishes Come True USB drive? Or maybe you already have and need to feed the addiction. Either way, head over to Hot Topic where they’re on sale at $9.99, down from $14.99.
Albotas PSA: Wishes Come True Mimobots @ Hot Topic
Yeah, I went into Hot Topic today. In my defense, I was looking for Mameshiba gear. Which they didn’t have. But just as I was about to leave, I noticed a case of blind boxes. Turns out they were the Wishes Come True Mimobot USB drives designed by FriendsWithYou. I hadn’t seen them anywhere else yet, so I snatched one up. Go get ‘em. And send me yours if you get a Mr. TTT.
PS: They’re on the HT website too.
[Editor’s note: You can also be super cool and get them from our friends at TenaciousToys.com!]
Blind box Mimobots?
Sure, why not? The idea never occurred to me to put designer flash drives in a blind box, but I’ll probably end up picking one up. At $15 each, they’re not something I’d buy multiples of, but the novelty alone draws me in. Also, it helps that this run is designed by one of my favorites, FriendsWithYou.
