I Live in Weeaboo City, Florida

Not really. But Orlando is pretty up on Wapan and the Wapanese culture. It all just kinda comes together at Epcot.

These photos are from a store located inside of Epcot’s World Showcase in the Japan pavilion. I snapped some photos tonight since I realize not everyone in the world gets a chance to go to Epcot, let alone Disney, as much as I do.

(I’ve got a year pass, and before you call me ‘lucky,’ realize that they cost $400 and I had to save up for a while to actually achieve it. Also, I’m not ‘lucky,’ for living next to Disney as Orlando is a terrible city.)

The store that sells these items is actually a real department store called Mitsukoshi. The store mainly exists on the east side of the world, with locations in Japan (where it originated from), Korea, Hong Kong, and China, with a few locations in Europe. The sole Mitsukoshi store that exists in all of North America is only at Disney’s Epcot in the Japan pavilion.

So it’s no wonder why so many weeaboos come to Epcot daily. And no, I don’t mean tourists who are interested in looking at Pocky all day, but I mean local/Floridian weeaboos. They really do exist there — I’ve seen them, and they come to Epcot pretty often.

There is a handful of kids who walk around the Japan pavilion and hang out there all day, spending tourist prices on Ramune and rocking their most stylish fedoras. Granted, I spend all day at Disney whenever I have the chance, but I also visit its three other parks, and I don’t choose to consume wasabi peas for dinner every chance I get to go. To each his own, I guess. Enjoy the photos of some of the merch located Mitsukoshi at Epcot, as well as a portion of my Saturday night.

This Exists: Godzilla vs. Charles Barkley comic book

I was doing some browsing on the Internet to research into some good Godzilla comic book starting points (there aren’t many good Godzilla titles, honestly), since I’ve been reading the incredible James Stokoe’s Godzilla: Half-Century War, and I came across one of the most absurd comic books ever published. Godzilla vs. Charles Barkley.

I guess back in the early 90’s, there were Nike television commercials where Charles Barkley really went one on one against the big radiated lizard himself on the streets of Tokyo. So Dark Horse Comics decided to make an adaptation of the commercial.

The comic is about a little kid who gives Barkley a silver coin that makes him grow Godzilla-sized so they can go one and on and Godzilla can go HAM on Charles’ motherfucking assssss. But Barkley wins (I think), and we’re only blessed with Godzilla wearing his own special shoes, Barkley being way taller than he usually is, and a couple of hilarious splash pages. Check some caps above.

I should be ordering my copy of the physical comic book soon to add to my novelty collection. Mint condition runs around a little less than $20, and I can’t NOT have this.

New Poster for Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla Reboot
From artist Gwen Vibancos comes this amazing poster for the new Godzilla film directed by Gareth Edwards.
I’ve been excited for this film for quite some time. Along with Pacific Rim, the Godzilla film will be meeting my kaiju/giant robot quota for 2013. For those of you who are fearing another Americanized version of Godzilla, don’t worry. Gareth Edwards is no stranger to monster movies. His 2010 "Monsters" was a fantastic low-budget monster film with more to it than one would expect. I highly recommend it.
I can’t wait to see what Edwards does with Godzilla.

The King of Monsters vs A God
I’d hate to see Tokyo after this battle. Artist Patrick Towers brings us a bone chilling match up that pits Godzilla vs EVA Unit-01.
I’d love to see this film. Even more interesting is the cultural contexts that are contained within each film. Godzilla originally dealt with the nuclear attacks and trying to come to terms with that. Evangelion draws a line from that in dealing with fate and the unpredictability of human life. One could argue that the mech genre was born in response to the Kaiju genre.
In any case, this is truly awesome art. Check out more of Patrick Towers’ work at DeviantArt and like him on Facebook.

Idris Elba looks badass in Pacific Rim.

Idris Elba is a guy from the UK and total BADASS. And here is a picture of him in costume as General Stacker Pentecost for the upcoming 2013 giant mech/giant monster/apocalypse movie Pacific Rim which also stars Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy),Charlie Day (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), and Ron Perlman (Hellboy)  with Guillermo del Toro directing.

Basically, the premise is that in the future, a portal opens up in the Pacific and GIANT Kaiju monsters emerge and attack civilization, killing thousands, destroying resources, (Tokyo just so happens to be the nearest mark). So humanity engineers giant mech robots called Jaegers to combat these Godzilla type mofos.

Tl;dr? GIANT MONSTERS ATTACK JAPAN, HUMANS FIGHT THEM BACK WITH GIANT ROBOTS. That alone has sold me on this film, like some live action anime/kaiju film love letter written to me! Kaiju monster movie fans!

Pacific Rim will release July 12th, 2013!

A Little Bit On The Geek Ink Side: Garbage Pail Kids backpiece tattoo. The original card this was based on was named Charred Chad/Fryin’ Ryan, but the name was changed to ‘Orrible OZZY after the tattoo wearer’s son.

Anyone else collect the living shit out of Garbage Pail Kids cards back in the day?

A Little Bit on the Kawaiju Side: These kaiju figures are so kawaii that I’m resisting the urge to buy them both. They’re made by Chima Group in Japan. Ademas, the Godzilla type dude, is $26 and Wool, the dinosaur guy, is $30 at myplasticheart. Some versions are sold out, but hopefully they’ll restock.

Tokidoki Kaiju Plush to Softly Crush Cities
The next few months are going to be awesome for tokidoki fans. First, we brought you word of the vinyl Cactus Piglet, Porcino. Now we’ve uncovered a photo of a plush Kaiju. It will be about 9” tall and cost between $20 and $30. No word on if it shoots pink lasers out of its eyes or where it will be available, but I’d assume tokidoki.it as well as your favorite designer toy stores will carry it.
