Moekana: Adorable Hirigana Flash Cards For Otaku

I had the extreme honor of sitting in on nerd god Danny Choo’s panel at New York Comic Con (which was his first time ever in NY!) where he revealed some new additions to line of Moekana flash cards. Check out the one for “big” and the RPG inspired one for “street, town, village”.

For those who don’t know, Danny Choo started out as a passionate otaku who always dreamed of one day living in Japan. He wound up teaching himself Japanese and website development and his since worked for some pretty huge companies including the Japanese branches of Amazon and Microsoft, and he currently has two shows devoted to shining a spotlight on Japanese otaku culture. He’s also produced several anime series and currently runs his own company, Mirai Inc.

The dude’s insanely inspirational and I highly recommend you read his bio and this article about how discovering Japan changed his life. Who knows, maybe Moekana flash cards will change your life and make your dreams come true just like learning Japanese did for Danny!

Obscenely Awesome Mazinger Z Chogokin Figure
OMFG. Look at this thing. It’s like the giant robot equivalent of Kaws’ Dissected Companion. The super accurate recreation from the original Mazinger series comes with a bunch of LEDs and full size docking bay. It’s almost a foot tall. For the $440 price tag, I was hoping for something more like three feet. It’s still awesome and I still want one though.

Nyarko-San Figma

From Max Factory’s Nyarko San: Another Crawling Chaos series based on H.P. Lovecraft’s Outer God Nyarlathotep, pre-orders are now up for the serie’s titular character, Nyarko-San.

This Figma comes with three different faces, the usual assortment of hands & Figma stand, a crowbar, and a grenade with a cute pink bow on it. Leave it to Japan to turn something Lovecraftian into supercute moe.

A Brilliant Detective And A Mass Murderer Are Traveling In A Train Together At 333 Kilometers Per Hour…
This Death Note cosplay makes my guts feel really nice. It’s always especially awesome cosplay goes from just “weirdos playing dress-up” to elaborate photoshoots that bring fantasy worlds to life better than most movies ever seem to do.

‘JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’ Gets Fancy Limited Edition Cellphone
The popular manga-turned-cult-fighting-game is getting its own limited edition Adventure Optimus Vu. For those not familiar with the phone, think of it as a cross between a cellphone and a table, but the addition of a stylus - pretty much like Samsung’s Galaxy Note. These are limited to 15,000 and available exclusively from Japanese service provider NTT DoCoMo.
And, just because, here’s a trailer for JoJo’s Bizzarre Adventure HD, which you should REALLY play.

Capcom’s JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure Coming to XBLA / PSN

Namco Bandai’s announcement of a new JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure fighting game caused a bit of excitement last week. Capcom, doing what they do best, are cashing in on that buzz by releasing an HD version of their CPS3 game based on the series. Don’t get me wrong - this is cool news since (I’m assuming) there will be online multiplayer. Let’s hope they do justice to the last CPS3 game ever made.

Protip: Sell your mildly valuable Dreamcast copy of the game before the HD version lands on August 21 for PSN and August 22 for XBLA.
