The King of Monsters vs A God
I’d hate to see Tokyo after this battle. Artist Patrick Towers brings us a bone chilling match up that pits Godzilla vs EVA Unit-01.
I’d love to see this film. Even more interesting is the cultural contexts that are contained within each film. Godzilla originally dealt with the nuclear attacks and trying to come to terms with that. Evangelion draws a line from that in dealing with fate and the unpredictability of human life. One could argue that the mech genre was born in response to the Kaiju genre.

Buy It: The Godzilla Collection
Check out this adorable Evangelion x Hello Kitty merch. The iPhone 5 case comes equipped with stickers of the Angels and other Eva themed stuff. They come in both black and white. They go for around 21 USD.
Then there is the Hello Kitty Unit-01. This thing is awesome and at around $23 USD, it would make an great addition to any EVA/Hello Kitty lover’s collection.
Now for EVA rebuild 3.33 to make it to US shores.
Evangelion Edition Pentax Q10 Mirrorless Digital Camera
Only 1,500 of these Neon Genesis Evangelion cameras will be released by Pentax in Japan this April for 59,800 Yen (about $660 USD) and I totally need one of each.
Neon Genesis Evangellion T-Shirt & Skateboard Collection

Daily Graffiti: Freaking ENORMOUS Evangelion Street Art
Neon Genesis Evangelion is at the top of my list of anime that I need to stop being a lazy jerk about and just watch already. This piece by Deter, Owns, and Bandi makes me feel even worse about sleeping on what some refer to as the most influential anime series of all time.
Check out the super huge version here.
A Little Bit On The Evangelion Kitty Side: With You Can (Not) Redo coming out this fall, Neon Genesis Evangelion will be teaming up with Sanrio to create various types of merchandise with Rei and Asuka Hello Kitties on them.
Each month, Kaiyodo puts out a new super-articulated toy for its Yamaguchi series, usually based on a giant robot. This month sees the release of BAPE’s Baby Milo mascot. Next month we’ll get an Eva Unit-04 from the Evangelion remake series of movies. And March will bring a plastic Edward Elric from Full Metal Alchemist. Hit the link for more pics and info.
Each month, Kaiyodo puts out a new super-articulated toy for its Yamaguchi series, usually based on a giant robot. Launching today is Eva Unit 06 from the Rebuild of Evangelion series of movies. This one’s got a super cool color scheme, a translucent halo, and a moon that can attach to the back of the figure. A light inside the moon makes it glow and even transmits light to the translucent eyes, making them glow. Very cool.
Next mont will be a double whammy with both Himura Kenshin and Himura Battohsai from Rurouni Kenshin getting the Revoltech treatment. The figures are meant to celebrate the series’ 15th anniversary. I smell a plastic sword fight coming.
November is another month with a double release. First, there’s an alternate Jehuty figure from Zone of the Enders. Figure 103 from April was a figure of Jehuty, but this one is slightly different looking and has a lot of new accessories. I think that’s kind of mean to release two similar figures so close in time to one another. I’m a bit obsessed over Zone of the Enders, so I do want this one, but I just spent $55 on the last one. Pass.
The other November figure is Eva Unit 05 from the Rebuild of Evangelion series. This Eva is a creepy mofo. It’s like a giant praying mantis. But with a giant spear attached to it. The figure is 160cm tall - a good 20cm taller than most of the giant robot editions.
We usually only get to peer two months into the Revoltech future. But this time we get to see all the way ahead into December. And that’s when you can get your hands on this awesome Anubis figure from Zone of the Enders. Those Jehuty figures aren’t going to fight themselves, you know. Being a big fan of the series, I’m probably going to pick this up. But images of Anubis - god of the afterlife, not the giant robot - have always creeped me out. So maybe not…
Check back on the 15th of each month for Albotas’ monthly Revoltech report.
I’ll be posting more anime/manga-centric pictures over the next couple weeks since Anime Expo and AM² are taking place this coming weekend in Los Angeles and Anaheim respectively. For example, here’s You Kazakami’s illustration of Mari Illustrious Makinami from Evangelion 2.0: You Can (Not) Advance. I’m hoping a release date for the third film will be announced pretty soon.
(Non-) Neon Genesis Evangelion
Jimmy Xu (a.k.a. 343GuiltySpark) created this digital painting of EVA 01. The new color scheme definitely makes it more menacing and practical than the bright purple and green we’re used to seeing.
So crazy customized trucks are called “Dekotora" (デコトラ) in Japan. But what about crazy customized cars decorated with half-nekkid anime/manga ladies?
Basically diehard fans will pimp their rides with body pillows (giggity), stickers, figures, decals, vinyl, etc. You name it, it’s on there! Peep the gallery and check out the link (SNSFW).
