Simone Legno Sketches Venom [NYCC 2011]

No, Simone from tokidoki didn’t do a group portrait of black metal band Venom, even though he should. He sketched Venom from Marvel Comics, one of the characters he’s illustrated for his shirts and zipper pulls. The guy he’s drawing it for told Simone, “Just draw whatever you want and I’m going to get it tattooed on me,” then showed him his tokidoki / Spider-Man tattoo. No pressure, Simone.

Albotas Checks out the tokidoki Phone [NYCC 2011]

Right next to the tokidoki booth at NYCC 2011 was the MetroPCS booth, showing off their newest addition to their Android cellphone offerings. This one has two exclusive tokidoki designs on interchangeable faceplates [welcome back to 1999] and an Adios charm.

Albotas Goes to the Square-Enix Booth (NYCC 2011)

We had to check out the Square-Enix booth at NYCC 2011. There were so many awesome figures from Batman, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and more. Plus there was a case of awesome Final Fantasy plushies. I want that moogle.

Albotas Checks out Street Fighter x Tekken (NYCC 2011)

I really wanted to play this game, but just look at that waiting line. It isn’t even a waiting line. It’s a waiting angry mob. At least we got to check out some gameplay of Hugo and Poison, who haven’t been playable Street Fighter characters in a long time.

Albotas Goes to the tokidoki Booth (NYCC 2011)

One of the highlights of NYCC 2011 was the tokidoki booth and Simone Legno’s meet and greet sessions. The booth had all sorts of merch, from your standard blind boxes to Comic Con exclusive metallic and blank Unicornos.

When’s Mother 3 Coming Out?

Sometimes we put on our investigative journalism hats at Albotas. We went straight to the source to determine the release date of the elusive Mother 3, the GBA sequel to Earthbound.

Albotas Previews Skyward Sword

Check out our preview of Skyward Sword, straight from Nintendo World. The game looks great, but those controls are way off, even after recalibrating the Wiimote.

Albotas Interviews Johnny Cupcakes @ NYCC 2011

Once upon a time your humble Albotas editor-at-large liked a band called On Broken Wings. Once upon a time he was inspired by the t-shirts of Johnny Cupcakes to launch his own t-shirt line. He would call it ALBOTAS and it would stand for A Little Bit On The Awesome Side. But then, blogging turned out to be way more fun (and way less of a hassle) than making t-shirts.

Enjoy our interview with the dude semi responsible for this site existing.

Ghostbusters Trap Is a Trap (NYCC 2011)
Check out this replica Ghostbusters trap, which I just might have to buy. I always wanted the squirt-gun proton pack as a kid but never got it. I think this will make up for it.

Android Ice Cream Is a Lie (NYCC 2011)
I ran into NYC traffic to get an Android shaped ice cream from this truck. It was a sabotage, though. They only had normal old ice cream sammiches. Uhg!

A Little Bit on Andrew Bell (NYCC 2011)

NYCC was obviously full of awesome artists and celebrities, but a special few stood out in my mind. One of them was Andrew Bell. You’ve seen his work in toy form (Android mini collectibles, O-No Sushi) as well as on paper and canvas (The Creatures in my Head). Check out my interview with Andrew Bell of Dead Zebra and DYZPlastic.

A huge thanks goes to Andrew!

Shawnimal Made a Funny (NYCC 2011)
Marc: Yeah, I think my favorite Ninja of the Month is the Forest Spirit Ninja for Hemp Day. It was for Hemp Day, right? Or was it Earth Day?
Shawnimal: It was for Earth Day, but I’m sure it was also Hemp Day for a lot of people.

NYCC 2011: Effing Adorable Fiona Cosplay

This is Charm from the geek fetish site CosplayDeviants.com and she was spotted at NY Comic Con letting dudes grab business cards out of her cleavage. I took part in no such activities because I’m a true gentleman — and also because she looked totally under age and I’m not trying to spend Comic Con in prison.
