ALBOTAS GOES TO WIZARD WORLD PHILLY 2013
(This is an old post from almost a year ago that was saved as a draft and eventually forgotten about. My bad)
As someone who has been regularly attending Wizard World since 2007, I can honestly say it gets bigger year after year. With big names like Stan Lee and the cast of The Walking Dead and Firefly, this was easily the biggest year yet.

It’s time to face the facts: nerd culture has infiltrated the mainstream and it looks like it’s here to stay. If this year’s Wizard World Philly comic Con was any indication, it might have something to do with a little show called The Walking Dead. The AMC TV series seems to have bridged the gap between mainstream media and comicbook fandom. Everywhere you looked, people could be seen with Walking Dead VIP lanyards and arms full of Walking Dead merch. For a second, I actually thought I was at a Walking Dead convention.
But then the REAL fun began. BUYING LOTS OF STUFF!!! Meeting celebrities and attending panels is all good and well, but there’s nothing like sifting through old back issues. I managed to score some issues of the old Vampirella magazines and various other junk I’d been missing from my collection. Word to the wise: if you’ve never attended a con like Wizard World and plan on doing so in the future, bring a buttload of backup funds because you WILL spend money on the plethora of cool stuff on display.
And the cosplay at Wizard World just keeps getting better and better each year. The first Wizard World I ever attended had barely any cosplayers, but these days you can’t walk 10 steps without bumping into someone dressed as their favorite character. Check out our cosplay posts HERE and HERE from the event.

All in all, it’s been amazing to watch this yearly con evolve into what it is today. Back in the day, the main celebrity guests were cool, but nothing as huge as Stan Lee or the casts of Firefly and The Walking Dead.

Speaking of Stan Lee, check out our article 5 Things We Learned About Stan Lee at Wizard World Philly.
I leave you now with this video of a little kid bumrushing the stage at the Walking Dead panel. This was NOT part of the show. Some parent just let their kid get up on stage and take the mic.

Philadelphia Has Stupid Gaming Laws.
This sign was spotted on an inactive arcade machine in Philly, PA.
Ir reads:
"Philadelphia law allows only 3 active arcade machines per store without a special license.
This machine will remain off until we get the license, but we will have special occasions where we change the 3 active games.
Keep an eye out for special events involving our arcade games!”
I live about 45 minutes outside of Philly and I’ve never heard of this law in my life. Anyone know what shop this is in?
UpdateZen Albatross let’s us know where this was spotted via Twitter: “Atomic City Comics on South St in Philly. I think it’s a city law.”
