CHARGEBOARD - THE SELF-CHARGING LONGBOARD THAT IS ALSO AN IPHONE DOCK

Okay, Chargeboard, I’m gonna’ be straight witchu’. The rebellious skate in me wants to hate you for turning a passionate lifestyle into a gimmicky fad item, but the gadget freak in me really wants to hang out with you. I really like the idea of just riding you until you’re all charged up and then finding a nice spot to relax and dock my gear into your slot. Oh, what’s that? Your dock is only compatible with the iPhone 4 and 4S? But I can still charge other devices through your USB port and pump songs through a 3.55mm audio jack? Idunni, girl. The iPhone 6 just came out and I’m due for an upgrade… You know what, chargeboard? I just remembered there’s this thing I need to go take care of. Don’t worry, I’ll call you when the time is right. I promise.

STAR WARS X VANS SUMMER 2014

Laid-back beachy summer vibes join forces with a galaxy far, far away with this collection of sneakers, bags, and hats from Star Wars and Vans. There’s some cool little details like Yoda hiding in the flower patterns and Boba Fett in the camo.

And if you’ve ever wondered what a Wookie skating a bowl would look like, check out the video below.

BOB BURNQUIST HAS A FLOATING SKATE RAMP ON LAKE TAHOE
California’s Department of Tourism is on point. Click through for a video of skate legend Bob Burnquist skating on giant floating ramp in the middle of Lake Tahoe. The whole thing is supposed to make you want to visit Cali, but it really just makes me want to be rich so I can have my own floating skate ramp. And health insurance since I’ll probably hurt myself.

I wonder if all the rebellious skaters I looked up to as a kid secretly talk in snobby Ivy League voices to one another. “Oh, you absolutely MUST come with us to my floating ramp in Lake Tahoe over the summer, it’s TO DIE for. I can hardly imagine how I ever skated on sidewalks in public with so many poor people around!”

Weekend To Do List

  1. READ: 43. We mentioned this brilliant skate mag in this post over here. They’re all sold out on the site, but your local skate shop should carry them if they know what’s up. Amazing pictures and stories no matter how into skateboarding you are.
  2. GO TO: Magic: The Gathering “Theros” pre-release. Okay so we don’t really post a lot of MTG stuff on the site, but I’m addicted the game and I have a problem. I’ll be hitting up the midnight pre-release at my local gaming shop. Anyone else going to a pre-release this weekend? What color’d ya’ pick? I went with red.
  3. LISTEN TO: The Bronx. All of their albums are self titled, but (in typical punk rock fashion) their first album is the best. The easiest way to describe them is punk, but they really don’t sound like other punk bands. The vocals are incredibly raw and unique, the guitar riffs are a mix of bar room rowdiness with a bit of surfer rock swagger, but it’s just really fast and energetic music that gets you pumped. It’s like liking a battery while getting a blow job. This is their best song. They also have an alter ego mariachi band called Mariachi El Bronx which is, surprisingly, really really good.
  4. PLAY: Grand Theft Auto V. Kevin is the only member of Team Albotas that picked up a copy (see this post) and when I asked him how it was so far, he said “Incredible. Can’t describe it. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted in a GTA game and then some.” I didn’t get it because I’m a broke bastard and I guess Rock Star lost my press copy in the mail.

I’ll be covering my naked body in shiny new Magic cards for most of the weekend, but I might try to hit up this local game of S.K.A.T.E. being being put on by my local skate shop to score some footage or something. I kinda’ want to do a little documentary on the shop and the dude who runs it because it’s a pretty sweet operation.

But what about YOU, guys? What. About. YOU!? (That was a Breakfast Club reference.) Any sweet plans this weekend? Talk to us in the comments. We get lonely sometimes and just need to be reminded that you’re out there.

See ya’ next week!

From the artist:

skateboarding is one of the most powerful influences on youth culture. embodying a spirit of conflict, imagination, and triumph, it encourages the questioning of authority and theexploration of free alternative thinking. it was always the one thing that cut through thebullshit and gave us access to something real.
the growth of skateboarding’s influence has led to a watered down, mainstream emergence.the essence is nearly lost in manufacturing a fake, exploitable presentation with acommercial message.
the mission of my work is to help keep the skateboarding authentic, perpetuating itspositive impact on society and youth counter-culture.

The subway and roof skating shots are part of the upcoming skate vid Tengu: God of Mischief. Pre-order it here and check out a trailer below.

The World’s First 3D Printed Skateboard
Dutch artist Samuel Abbot won a 3D printer in a contest organized by 3DPrintUK and CGTrader. He then used the printer and his trusty design skills to create this amazingly badass skateboard. Click through for more pics and a video to see how it was made.

From the designer:

It wasn’t quite as straight forward as just a print as the board is longer than our build tray, meaning that we had to cut it into 3 sections, joining it together with some connector pins to ensure accuracy and to give it some strength over a simple butt joint.

Boosted Boards - The Lightest Electric Longboards Ever

I’m 28 years old. My leg-bones can’t handle landing skate tricks like they used to, but every now and then I get the urge to skate to work. I’ve been debating scooping a decent longboard and I think the fine peeps over at Boosted Boards have just what I’m looking for. Their electric longboards are just 12lbs., making them world’s lightest electric vehicles, they get about 6 miles out of a single charge, and they can hit speeds of up to 20MPH. The only downside is they’re a bit pricey. $1200 is no joke.
