Jumbo Combattler V from Rotobox
Rotobox continue their stunning customization work with this tribute to Combattler Godaikin toy. True to the original, this Qee version combines five pieces to form the full robot. It’s a one-off and has already been sold, but you can still drool at all the photos here.
Albotip: The “V” in “Combattler V” is pronounced like the letter (as opposed to “five”) and stands for “Victory.”

Obscenely Awesome Mazinger Z Chogokin Figure
OMFG. Look at this thing. It’s like the giant robot equivalent of Kaws’ Dissected Companion. The super accurate recreation from the original Mazinger series comes with a bunch of LEDs and full size docking bay. It’s almost a foot tall. For the $440 price tag, I was hoping for something more like three feet. It’s still awesome and I still want one though.

A Little Bit on the Virtual-On Side: Virtual-On Force (AKA Virtual-On 4) is getting the Platinum Collection treatment next month. The re-release will run about $35 and feature Fei-Yen on the cover. I hate Greatest Hits / Platinum Collection banners on my game art, but the Fei-Yen art makes up for it. Plus, the price is too good to refuse.

Voltron Game Might Be Cool

You know the rule. When a game is based on a movie or show, it’s probably going to suck. But this XBLA / PSN Voltron game actually looks pretty cool. I guess we’ll have to wait until October to really know.

Monthly Revoltech Report (July ‘11)

Each month, Kaiyodo puts out a new super-articulated toy, usually based on a giant robot. Launching today is Evangalion’s Movie Version Eva Unit 03 in freak-out mode. Scary!

Next month is Full Metal Panic’s ARX-8. This one comes with a shitload of guns, if you didn’t notice.

And in September, you’ll be able to get your hands on this amazing figure. It comes with the halo and moon and the eyes even have LEDs in them. I only collect the normal non-movie Eva Revoltechs, but this one is so sweet that I’m probably going to pick it up anyway.

Hatsune Miku Does The Robot
Miku will have a Virtual-On costume in her upcoming game, Project Diva 2.5. The costume is based on the character, Fei-Yen, who was awesome because she would go into turbo mode when her health meter dipped below a certain level. Her pink paint would shatter, revealing a glowing gold layer and her speed would increase like crazy. Plus she had a dragon shot.

[Review] Bangai-O HD Missile Fury

Despite being a 2D game, Bangai-O HD Missile Fury gives you the rare opportunity to feel like a real pilot of a giant robot. But you’ll need some hardcore New Type skills in order to appreciate its brutality. You will rage quit.

Giant robots, constant action, challenging, lots to do
Stupid-hard sometimes, no frills

Hit the link for our full review, and my personal challenge to myself to squeeze in as many mecha anime references as possible.

Zone of the Enders gets plastic
Finally! Over the years, we’ve gotten Gundam, Eva, Virtual On, and all sorts of other mecha toys. But for some reason there have never been figures based on the Orbital Frames from Zone of the Enders. Revoltech will take care of that, though. The makers of some of the most articulate and durable mid-priced toys will be making a figure based on Jehuty. Now it’s only a matter of time before the next sequel, right? Right?!
