THE FOUNDER OF KIDROBOT IS STARTING A SOCIAL NETWORK
File this under: WHAAAT!?!?
We’ve been covering Kidrobot and the designer toy scene here on Albotas for several years now, so Paul Budnitz is a name our readers are likely quite familiar with. A few years ago, he founded Kidrobot in 2002, then Budnitz Bicycles a few years later, and now he’s starting yet another venture: an all new social networked called Ello.

It seems he doesn’t appreciate the way Facebook collects data and sells it to advertisers. Here’s the company’s manifesto taken from their site:

Your social network is owned by advertisers.
Every post you share, every friend you make and every link you follow is tracked, recorded and converted into data. Advertisers buy your data so they can show you more ads. You are the product that’s bought and sold.
We believe there is a better way. We believe in audacity. We believe in beauty, simplicity and transparency. We believe that the people who make things and the people who use them should be in partnership.
We believe a social network can be a tool for empowerment. Not a tool to deceive, coerce and manipulate — but a place to connect, create and celebrate life.
You are not a product.

Read more about Ello on the official site where you can’t sign up yet, but you can request an early invite.
Idunno, guys. I mean, if Myspace can’t even make a comeback is there really room left on the Internet (and in our lives) for another social network? Maybe we should all just go back to Xanga.

Star Wars x A Bathing Ape Baby Milo Toys
A Bathing Ape teamed up with Star Wars about two years ago to create some awesome t-shirts. They’re at it again, but this time they’re using plastic instead of cotton. The toys are being produced by Medicom and will be released on Saturday, November 23, in Japan.
These might look like super deformed Darth Vader and Storm Trooper toys at first, but removing their helmets reveals them both to be Baby Milo in disguise. I’d make a Star Wars / Planet of the Apes tie-in movie joke right here, but I don’t even want to think about the horrors that movie would bring.

Blindboxed.com Officially Launches
Today, A Little Bit on the Awesome Side, AKA Albotas.com, evolves and expands. While Albotas has been covering the designer toy scene since its inception and predates many of today’s popular designer toy blogs, our priorities have shifted based on our fans’ and readers’ feedback. As hardcore fans of the scene, we’re not willing to just drop that topic, so we’re spinning off the designer toy stuff into a new site, Blindboxed, where we can have a more dedicated and focused set of content for all the vinyl, resin, and plush fans out there.
What Can I Expect from Blindboxed?
We will be posting daily updates on industry news, upcoming releases, new reveals, and the latest work from our favorite artists and designers. As you might have seen, we’ve been filling up the site with pre-launch content already.
We’ll also be posting plenty of original content, such as artist interviews, DIY tips and tricks from established designers and customizing pros, event coverage, toy reviews, and more.
Finally, we’ll keep you on your toes with cool surprises. Keep an eye out for a special Blindboxed launch celebration sponsored by some of our awesome designer toy friends and artists.
